If Lacson waives immunity

FIRST Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo is willing to appear before the Senate if the "blue ribbon" committee on public accountability summons him to answer Senator Panfilo Lacson's allegation that he laundered 270 million pesos in campaign contributions to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through secret bank accounts, Malacañang said Tuesday.

"The President has always said nobody is above the law and that includes members of the First Family," said Presidential Spokesperson Ignacio Bunye in reply to a question whether the President's husband would face the committee if summoned.

He noted that Arroyo was "prone" to attacks from members of the opposition because "they feel that if they attack the First Gentleman they are attacking the President."

In a privileged speech on Monday, Lacson said Arroyo laundered the money through bank accounts in the name of Jose Pidal and three other persons, including his personal secretary, Victoria Toh. Lacson said Jose Pidal was none other than the First Gentleman, citing that their signatures bore strong resemblance.
