There's Another NEW Computer Virus: Sobig Worm
My company got hit this morning with it. It is a monster.

This is not the Wormblaster, but still another new one.

Anybody out there know anything about this one?

1. I got several emails with it this AM
I believe it's an Outlook Express (email) borne virus. Norton Internet Security blocked it on my PC.

4. It's all over up here in Washington State.
One mail even made it through the firewall to my desk at work.

Of course I'm now running strictly Mandrake 9.1 at home, so no worries here.

The timing of this whole thing is just too suspicious.....

First MicroSquish goes nuts with their **WARNINGS** of security flaws in their software - flaws that they knew were there all along, or they wouldn't continue to exist in every single release of Windows, even after the "Service Packs".

Then there's suddenly an epidemic of several different worm viruses fucking up networks nationwide. Think Billy and the boys knew what was coming??

Now I have always cynically believed that companies like Symantec, Trend, McAfee, etc actually paid programmers to write virus code in order to keep their sales of firewall and A/V software financially solvent. But this time we may be dealing with something far worse.

No, I will not use the "t" word. But it's more than a coincidence that you have these internet attacks, the power grid fiasco, and the Arizona pipeline rupture all within the same week. That's just a little much........

5. Friends don't let friends use MS Outlook
Never have used it and never will. I use Eudora and I have a spam filter. All those annoying spam messages and their nasty little virus attachments were clobbered. Anyone who has suffered threw one of these things and hasn't changed their e-mail program is just a glutton for punishment. Help prevent worms and viruses, stop using MS Outlook.

6. This is bad! I just got through, last week, getting a patch for
the "wormblaster"! I was fortunate that I was only off the internet for a night!

I'm sorry for all those affected! :-(
