Don't worry too much about Berger
On Wolf Blitzer, Bergers lawyer was terrific defending him and shooting down all the Right Wing bullshit.
This "case" is nothing. The Justice department says they are very happy with the cooperation Berger is giving them.
This case has been going on for almost one year and these reports of stuffing his socks with documents just "suddenly" popped up now. The people investigating the case did not even hear these accusations until just recently.
There is one document out of thousands and most of this document has been published already in magazines, books, ect. He was looking at all of these papers BY HIMSELF and one slipped into his briefcase. Berger is known by everyone (both parties) as being a stand up man and a great patriot. He is also known as being a bit disorganized at times and one paper out of thousands is an honest slip up.
It will go away when the 9-11 commision report comes out Thursday.

2. I agree. People need to calm down
This is a nothing issue, let's not make it into one with our own reactions.

4. I am inclined to agree
I rather get this out of the way before the Convention, but he will get hammered on all the Nightly Newscasts tonight.

8. Sorry, but this kinda quote won't cut it with people on the fence...
Or are you being sarcastic? Sorry. Not feeling very subtle today... Look, I don't know WHY they're on the fence but they are, and there seem to be millions of them, and Kerry needs them. So, by the same token, what he doesn't need now is some sort of "informal adviser" accused of "stealing" classified docs a week before the convention, so I say Sandy B. made the right move by withdrawing from the Kerry campaign. It's sad that it has to be this way but that's American fucking politics in 2004 when you're running againt GW. What I think doesn't matter. Dammit, my vote's cast. But I spoke to three "undecideds" today and they all mentioned Sandy's problem. Which, thanks to the "liberal media" is only going to get worse.

12. David Gergen defends Berger says they're "Innocent' actions"
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 05:18 PM by Hoping4Change
Furthermore Berger's accuser who says Berger stuffed notes into his socks is unnamed and the accusations remain unsubstantiated.

I think Democrats have to realize that this is just the start of a filthy smear ridden campaign. Its going to get alot worse. The repukes will do anything to disgrace Dems. Of coarse fence sitters are going to be alarmed because they don't realize the criminality of Bushco.

Fence sitters are going be alarmed. That just means Dems have to be armed with the facts and not cave in to every smear no matter how odious it appears.

Philip Dick author of Total Recall, Minority Report and BladeRunner writes:

"So I ask, What is real? Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudorealities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms."

6. Was this released at this time

as a distraction from the release of the 9/11 report and to grab some attention from the Democratic Convention ?

13. James Woolsey just stuck up for Berger...
said he (Woolsey) had gotten a citation once himself and that it's easy for things like that to happen. Said that just about anybody who has handled documents like that frequently has had it happen to them.

For Woolsey to say that is quite something - considering that he is a PNAC Repub. idiot.

14. Is all of this really about
one piece of paper? One piece out of thousands? This is ridiculous. I could see someone accidentally picking up a piece of paper with other papers. Sounds innocent enough. This should probably blow over soon.

15. please pass some laws on what is considered "news", PLEASE!!!
Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 06:13 PM by p0X
i go to drudgereport.com and click on the fox *NEWS* link, and i read this quote:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,126249,00.html
"Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket, pants and socks"

BERGER AND HIS LAWYER! that looks pretty creepy, someone stuffing notes into their socks. so i keep going, and at another link on foxNEWS, there is this paragraph header:

"Docs in the Pants" (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,126358,00.html)

but the subject of the paragraph doesn't back the 'lawyer' claim from the story above. it DOES *repeat* the claim through a quote from saxby chambliss.

so now i'm trying to find other sources for this 'socks' claim, but they just don't exist. the closest thing i can find is this snippet in many stories:

"Former Clinton aide Lanny Davis challenged any unnamed official who
accuses Berger of stuffing documents into his socks to come forward and level that charge publicly."

drudge is passing itself off as a news outlet. foxnews is passing itself off as a news outlet. and the hundreds of right wing entertainment radio hosts that repeat this nonsense are being passed by their stations as news outlets.

i know i'm already "preaching to the choir" here, but come on! this type of "push-poll" journalism is unacceptable no matter WHERE it comes from, the left or the right.

i just wanted to get that out, because it really pissed me off.

thanks,

... paris
