2. No there isn't.
This was all just a bunch of BS rotating around rocket technology sold to China by a company who Richard Perle was involved with.

10. No, but it's a fave neocon talking point
Apparently, it grows out of the Wen Ho Lee witch hunt at Los Alamos. Security at the research facility had been compromised, and the man of Chinese extraction seemed to be a likely suspect. Unfortunately, the investigators let their mouths run way ahead of their findings, and the New York Times was all to happy to try to hang Mr. Lee out to dry (why, nobody can seem to tell, and the Times has claimed amnesia on the subject).

Overwrought Republican congress critters (you can probably name them from memory) publicly swooned, complaining that the Clinton administration had given away the "crown jewels" of our nation's nuclear secrets because the Chinese had somehow come into possession of some 10-year-old data. It was all quite an enjoyable moment for the Clinton Haters Club, but unfortunately the facts of the matter didn't bear out the story.

Lee was eventually nailed for sloppy handling of classified data (he copied some files from his government computer to review and work on at home), and that was basically it. But the story lives on in the overfevered imaginations of True Believers, told and retold like a favorite bedtime story with as much basis in truth as Little Red Riding Hood.

22. Step #2
When they can't prove it, ridicule them. Say "I *KNOW* the sun is shining, and I can prove that. I know that the sun rises in the East, and I can prove that. You can't prove nothing"

What they are trying to do is act like the Clinton admin. is much more corrupt than Bushco. I'm just trying to fight back and I stopped by here for confirmation.

Edited on Tue Jul-20-04 05:14 PM by sangh0
You need to distract them by pointing out all the criminals that Bush* hired for his admin. First remind them of the repuke ABC's (ie "Always Blame Clinton") followed by a "Why can't you defend Bush* (or can you) instead of attacking someone else?") Then, list all the criminals Bush* has hired. Pointdexter, Abrams, and Bosch lead the list. Bosch was a terrorist who blew a plane up.

Tell them that and they'll stop whining about Clinton.

Otherwise, they'll just keep throwing things at you, and you'll have to play defense. Don't answer their claims until they respond to yours first. Make them explain why Bush* hired a terrorist.

25. Klayman grandstanding.
It's just "Get Larry's face on teevee and give him a shot at making more money off his Clinton obsession ('cause it's dry'n up a bit)" crap.

Clinton's enemies went after him over crap. If they had had ANYTHING of real substance, ONE SHRED OF A LEGITIMATE CRIME, they would have crucified him. Clinton would have been impeached, convicted, publicly stripped, tarred, feathered, and dragged through the streets on his way to his new home in Ft. Leavenworth. The will was there, but the facts weren't and they couldn't be bent far enough.

And they can't stand that he wasn't the caricature they painted him as.

That alone answers your question. If his "hunters" could have nailed him for a legitimate act of corruption, they would and could have.

Any nuclear secrets lost to the Chinese were lost during the Reagan era. The rest of it is lots of Republican whining about China aquiring more advanced missile and satellite technology from US corporations ... at the very same time they're encouraging US corporations to do business IN CHINA.

Basically trying to take the inevitable results of the "free market uber alles" ideology they'd been championing since Reagan and trying to paint them all as Clinton's fault.

Chinese Espionage Was a Reagan-Bush Scandal
By Robert Parry
February 16, 2001

As recently as Tuesday, in a televised infomercial for right-wing Judicial Watch, the charge resurfaced that the Clinton administration’s role in Chinese nuclear espionage had not been investigated fully.

This time, the claim came from onetime-leftist journalist Christopher Hitchens as he chewed over old “Clinton scandals” with Judicial Watch leader Larry Klayman. According to the Judicial Watch infomercial, the culprits who curtailed this investigation were Clinton sympathizers in the press.

Beyond helping Judicial Watch raise money, this recurring China allegation has become something of a touchstone for many conservatives -- as well as other Americans -- who believe that the Clinton administration somehow traded nuclear secrets to China for campaign donations in 1996 -- and got away with it.

Indeed, many American voters may have gone to the polls last November with concerns that Al Gore's 1996 visit to a Buddhist temple in California had some connection to the alleged loss of nuclear secrets from Los Alamos. Bush supporters certainly did all they could to leave that impression.

20. Its up to the person who made the claim to prove it.
If I'm sitting at a bar and someone comes in yelling, "the aliens are coming", its not up to me to prove it or disprove it.

The onus is on the person making the claim.

26. Clinton renewed a waiver to the Loral Group that was first issued by Reaga
It had to do with Chinese Rockets entering space without mishap. Most American Communication Companies were using Chinese rockets to launch their satellites and those rockets were exploding and costing our companies billions. Reagan was asked to issue a waiver to the Loral Group and he did. All Clinton did was renew the waiver. Loral did indeed give the Chinese secrets that could help them target their rockets at the USA but Clinton did not receive any financial benefit at all. Loral Group is a huge GOP contributopr.
