Venice, CA who didn't have to sell her house because
of Prop. 13.
Of course that little old lady's house is now worth
$1 million in that area....and she pays little in
property taxes.

Any new buyers after Prop. 13 got screwed.

My mom, who lived in Mar Vista (near Venice) passed away last February. She bought her house in 1948 for something like $10,000 on my dad's GI loan.

Since Prop. 13 passed in 1976, my mom never paid more than $800-900 in property tax per year. The house sold last June for $589,000. The new owners will have to shoulder a property tax burden of approximately $7,000-$8,000 per year. Same exact house.

A national air pollution study found that Riverside, Calif., has the nation's worst air quality, with an average of 148 unhealthy air days a year.

The next four cities on the list were all in California: Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles-Long Beach and Sacramento.
