Video Voting brigade - refranchisement strategy
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 04:08 PM by Must_B_Free
My thought on Florida is that we should have people go out and volunteer to videotape the black voting precincts. If there is intimidation we can capture it on tape and get it on the air.

It might be intimidating for the police to be held accountable, but I don't think it is illegal to videotape out in public.

Focus the scrutiny on them and hold them accountable!

Is this a good idea?

(Addendum: I only say "black" because they were talking about black disenfranchisement in FLA on the radio which gave me the idea. Certainly it must be applicable to others as well.)

1. This is a GREAT IDEA. I've been saying this since 2001!
We should create a secure area here at DU for "Video Alerts".

2. I personally have about 3 video cameras
why let them go to waste when they could be saving democracy?

And we can have backups. If the offenders try to take the observers camera away by force, someone else can be filming to capture that. Double up!

MANY MANY people have videocams. Is democracy worth the effort to protect?

5. It is a good idea AND
I would have lawyers on call and 800 numbers for people to call to report voter intimidation and disenfranchisement attempts. Lawyers would show up in 10 minutes and raise hell with those poll workers.
