HALF-naked and teetering on impossibly high heels, 18-year-old Jemma Gunning danced on stage before a jeering crowd of drunken revellers.
It was the latest tacky holiday event at Faliraki on the Greek island of Rhodes - the Bedrock bar's Eurovision Thong Competition.

Jemma got the theme of the evening a little mixed up and bared the wrong bit of her body, peeling off her bikini top to roars of approval.
The judge still awarded her top prize in the early hours yesterday, but seconds later she fell victim to Faliraki's clampdown on British behaviour in the sex-and-booze resort.

I can't believe this. UK is just a copy of the U.S. run Moral Majority. What's so seriously wrong with nudity? What actual harm was committed?

Anyone who's been to Ibiza knows that UK twentysomethings on holiday can be as crude and boorish as American frat/sorority people on spring break.

Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but you might want to read the article before railing against 'the Christian state.'

On edit: by the way, the UK is waaaay less repressed than the US, sexually, socially and politically.

Firstly, rhodes is not in the UK... the american puritanism is directly related to victorian times which invented "pornography" as when roman bath house paintings were rediscovered a coupla centuries back, the heavily clothed laudinum (opium) drinking victorian england simply was too stoned to consider naked flesh a boon.

This is from the inverness newspaper about a man who has walked the length of the UK "naked" and has been imprisoned in inverness for 7 days for that crime... surely he'll start off north again once they let him go... but the article better demonstrates the stupid ignorant intolerance of the still-victorian thinking aspect of the british public.

9. Social Rules on Rhodes allow bare breasts only at Beach sunning/swimming

Indeed there is a wierd convention of covering your breasts if you wish to walk from the water 100 feet to a roadside vendor -

AND in Rhodes itself there was no bare breasts - even in the water (the beach sucks next to the city- but some folks were giving it a try - but 20 clicks away by the old Ven. castle there is one of the best beaches in the world!)
