Taco Bell's subliminable campaign to help Ahhhnuld
http://www.tacobell.com/2003recall/

Note that the Davis one is "soft" and "chicken." And that Ahhhnuld is the one with the "beef."

This one is rigged from the beginning, because their hard-shell tacos are their biggest seller, anyway. So of course Ahhhnuld will win this "poll" by a landslide, and the results will be broadcast from here to Bangladesh.

Isn't Taco Bell (a subsidiary of Pepsi Co.) a Repug corporation?

5. Here's some info
They used to be part of Pepsi.

"In 1977 Pizza Hut was acquired by PepsiCo, Inc. As part of PepsiCo, Pizza Hut shared its position with products like Pepsi-Cola® brand soft drinks and Frito-Lay® brand snack foods. In October, 1997, PepsiCo spun off the restaurant businesses (Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell) and Tricon Global Restaurants was founded, making it the world largest resturant group."

8. Demolition Man
In the restaurant wars, Taco Bell won, so all restaurants were Taco Bell

Arnold S. became president owing to a constitutional amendment. The amendnment passed because of his immense popularity.

At the time the movie was considered over-the-top fiction. Once again reality surpasses the most fertile imaginations.

9. Disgusting
I saw the ad in the paper this morning and I thought it was wildly inappropriate. I've lived in California all my life, but our politics are, and have been for years, completely screwed up. This recall mess makes a mockery out of the democratic process, and Taco Bell's stunt just makes it more surreal.

Also, the choices (at least in the ad I saw) were for Gray Davis, Ahnuld, or "one of the other 134" candidates. Where do we get to vote for the current front-runner, Cruz Bustamante? Why is he lumped in with the other 134? Was Taco Bell afraid to use Mexican food as a proxy for voting for a Latino?

Just ridiculous....

i suppose you would have to stand in line and when it's your turn to order, to just say 'no thanks' and walk out.
I haven't eaten Taco-hell in years and years, but if i lived in Cali, i'd do just that and boycott in action.

since this is gd, i won't post the pic, but follow link below.

34. No, they were afraid their Mexican* food wasn't authentic enough!
Was Taco Bell afraid to use Mexican food as a proxy for voting for a Latino?

Think about it. "El Gran Bustamante" would have to be short, stout, not too spicy, and (unlike the "Ahh-nuld") not too cheesy -- but filled with genuine, quality ingredients, which are in extremely short supply at Taco Hell!

Then again, if they really wanted to be mean, they would have had the "Gray Davis" be filled with pork...

:-)

Maybe Sen. Kohl's office could help us find out what is going with Taco Bell boosting Arnie's campaign?

Also note that Robert Ulrich the CEO of Target (Senator Mark Dayton's company) is on the Board. Maybe by working through the offices of these two Demoratic Senaotors we could get Taco Bell to modify its contest more to our liking.

the only proper choice in this "election" is to vote with my feet - and stay the hell away from taco hell.

i mean, give me a break, an "election" where you can vote as many times as you want by buying some shit product? an "election" where only candidates chosen by taco bell appear on the ballot? this isn't even a close approximation to democracy.

taco hell deserves to be boycotted for this obscenity.

28. Taco Bell Is Getting Flooded With Complaints!
I called Taco Bell at 1-800-Taco-Bell to register a complaint. The woman I spoke to was very nice and took down my concerns. I chatted her up a little...she said the phone has been ringing off the hook from the moment she got to work this morning, and 100% of the calls she got were to complain. People addressed the disrespect to the political process, the partisan nature based on the pricing, the possible racism in relegating Cruz Bustamante, the front runner, to the "other" category, etc.

Get on the horn, people! I think we may be heading towards a retraction. This is what grass roots is all about.

people would actually try to "vote" for Davis - it's diebolded.
By all means, complain! The entire thing is offensive on so many levels (starting with "buying a vote")
My letter:

Who says you cannot buy votes?
People who believe in democracy, that's who (astonishingly there are still some of us left). I cannot start describing on how many levels this stunt of yours is wrong: mocking voting rights, subverting campaign financing laws by providing support for your beefcake candidate (the "subliminable" insult to Davis has not gone unnoticed), alocating the designated loser an yet non-existing product - hence - no way to vote, trying to confuse voters into believing that your aging bodybuilder runs against Davis when in effect there is a recall question, your relegating Cruz Bustamante to " the rest of the 140" candidates....
One thing is sure: I won't patronize your estabishment (now will my family and many friends) until you remove that offensive assault on both our intelligence and our democracy.
Sincerely
A former customer

41. There are full page ads in newspapers - it will help Arnold
The ads show only Davis and Arnold, not in that order.

This election may be very close and the fact that they are promoting Arnold and not Cruz is a big deal.

They are trying to marginalize the Democratic candidate in a statewide big advertising campaign.

If you think political ads don't work, think again.

45. The ad is also misleading
In a misguided attempt to appear "fair and balanced" (don't sue!), Taco Bell has the following disclaimer: "We've assigned one Taco Bell® product to the Governor and one to the leading candidate of the opposing party, along with one product for all other candidates...."

This implies that there is an election between Davis on the one hand, and Schwarzenegger on the other. That's not true -- in fact, the CA Supreme Court held (incorrectly) that Davis is prohibited from running as his own replacement candidate. So the choices should be between "yes" or "no" on the recall, or using the "leading candidate for each party" logic, between Bustamante and Schwarzenegger.

Is this a minor issue? Kinda. But elections have been decided on lesser issues than this.
