What do you want our next Democratic President to do?
You know, the person that beats eL Busho in 2004, what sort of policies would you like her/him to implement?

Just beating Bush is great and all but let's raise the bar of expectations for a minute and contemplate what this person should do.

Restructure our Tax system upward? Maybe a Single Payer healthcare plan? Nothing?

What, other than beating the insane one, do you want our next Democratic President to do?

9. Here are some suggestions
1. Get rid of the USA Patriot Act.
2. Withdrawn from Iraq in a way that doesn't let that country fall apart or fall into chaos. Like it or not, we're now responsible for them, and we need to rebuild American credibility by doing right by Arab people. Cutting and running won't help in the long run.
3. End the Concentration Camp at Guantanamo Bay.
4. In general, appoint people who will enforce the laws and regulations in a way to help the public good rather than contributor's greed. This is for a long list of boards, commissions and authorities, such as EPA, OSHA, FCC, FTC etc.
5. Declare an end to the Bush Doctrine of Attack First, Make up Excuses Later.
6. Health Care, Budget Balancing, Tax Reform, Social Security strengthening all in their time. These can't be done as quickly as the others, and can't be done just by the president.

10. good question
1. put in place INTENSE campaign finance reforms across teh whole country that one-vote-per-dollar be consigned to the dustbin where it belongs.

2. Pursue a federal way to end all gerrymandering for a grid system as used in more modern democracies.

3. End all federal spending on the war on drugs. He can cut the budget while saying very little, and by the very stand down in the war, make peace with us people.

4. End the occupation of iraq and afganistan by paying generously for a UN nation building team to replace all american troops.

5. Introduce legislation to make the press independent, and to regulate the media that it not shirk its responsibility to be critical of government in its public obligation to tell the truth.

6. Introduce a constitutional amendment to form a public federal reserve banking system with full transparency in terms of how its open markets credit committee allocates credit (prints money).

7. Introduce a constitutional amendment to declare women and minority rights to full equality in american society.

8. Pardon all non-violent drugs people serving time in prison.

9. Create a public "truth commission" as in south africa to dig in to institutionalized racism and using government to launch illegal wars, and all that dirty stuff... this independent board of inquiry would answer directly to the public as all hearings would be open... and the whole exercise designed to take down institutional criminals who should be criminally persecuted for mass murder... This internal nuremburg to ascertain mistakes made and allocate justice would serve to heal the wounds of america from felons like otto riech.

... well, how's that for a start?

11. Tell Mrs. Dean
Congrats your now the 1st lady. Sorry, couldn't help my self. Stop the war and bring our troops home. Get the country working again. One payer health care for all would be nice. Re-do NAFTA, and all other trade laws. Tax the crap out of goods coming back into our country from American companys that left the US. Stop the no tax on companys that moved there head quaters off shore. He should do all he can to help the unions gain power so they can restore the middle class. Education at all levels needs help. Roads, bridges, and much, much, more. Oh, and don't forget to balance the budget! So much to do and so little to do it with, after the Bush wack.

12. Immediately appoint a panel
to investigate 9/11, PNAC, the WMD lies, etc. Declassify most, if anot all of the information shrub is hiding.

We deserve the truth, even if we have to wait until there's a new administration to get it.

13. Place Iraq under the auspices of the UN and offer support
to clean up the mess we made.

Beyond that:

Slash military spending, and devote the savings to domestic needs.

Try to form a coalition of Developed and Developing countries, through the UN, to bring about real change in the third world for the people - not the corporations and their paid for puppets.

Make a real case for federally sponsored health care for all and fight for it.

Do away with campaign contributions entirely. Return politics to the people. Candidates for federal office will be required to lay out their proposals and be questioned on them by panels representing the people. This to be followed by debates. After the election, a second election for the the top 2 candidates.

Vow not to use "preemptive strikes" except in extreme emergencies, to be followed by complete and open investigation of the causes.

Immediate involvement, without conditions, in the ICC.

Sign the Kyoto Treaty.

and, many more.

This could be a pretty nice country to live in if enough people gave a damn.

That's number one. Number two: out of Iraq. Number three: make our harbors, nuke plants, borders and first responders safer. Number four: public financing of Congressional and Presidential campaigns. Number five: frequent news conferences and open policies
