Since the 10 Commandments have been so prominent in the news lately with rabid, Neo-Con judge and citizens clamoring to protect and maintain the monument in Alabama, I thought we could see how Bush scores when the Commandments are used to measure his actions. After all, how many times have we heard right-wing fundies tell us that Bush is a man of God: so moral and pure, and that we are so lucky to have him in the White House.
Below are my findings (Yes, I am aware that we are not to judge. But
wothehell, let’s do it!). Feel free to add your own.
TEN COMMANDMENTS
http://www.rushman.org/tencommandments/1) I am the LORD your God, you shall have no other gods before me (“Faith/Trust in God: All faith in God, freedom from lesser gods: wealth, sex, power, popularity”)—Of the “wealth, sex, power, popularity,” Bush violates “wealth” because of his constant preoccupation with it; “power” because of his constant strive to achieve/maintain it. “Popularity,’ however, is a wash because of both his dependence on Karl Rove to keep it coupled with the fact he didn’t win the popular vote in 2000. As for “sex,” I’ll let other DUers decide.
2) You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain (“Respect/Holiness: Respect for God and the things of God: prayer, worship, religion”)—I defer to more learned DUers on this one since I’m not sure which god Bush respects (see No. 9).
3) Keep holy the Sabbath day (“Renewal: Not just the Sabbath rest, but setting aside time for prayer, good recreation, quiet reflection.")—Would a “GameBoy” be “good recreation?” Also, could hangovers be considered “quiet reflection?”
4) Honor your father and your mother (“Family: Loving care and respect for all family members, elders and younger siblings, too. Respect for elders in general”)—Bush scores
BIG on this one. What better way to honor your father than to use the might of the most powerful military in the history of the world to punish the man who dissed your Dad? (This even cancels the reputed fist-fight between Bush Jr and Sr during Jr's "days of youthful indiscretion").
5) You shall not kill (“Respect For Life: Courtesy to all, speaking respectfully to all, seeking the best for all. Respecting others' freedom while still defending all human life”)—
WHOA!!! I think we all know how Bush scores on this one! From firecracker-laden frogs to sleeping Iraqi citizens, Bush violates this commandment
BIG TIME!6) You shall not commit adultery (“Chastity/Faithfulness (Fidelity): Faithful actions beyond just abstaining from sexual contact outside of marriage. Respect for sex and marriage”)—Not sure how to score this one. Perhaps a GOP/Ken Starr-type investigation would give us more information.
7) You shall not steal (“Justice/Honesty: Concern for the rights of others, especially when they get in the way of what we desire. A commitment to fairness and a willingness to suffer loss rather than depriving another.”)—HAHAHA!!! The entire Iraqi war is about stealing Iraq’s oil with no regard whatsoever to a “commitment to fairness.” And certainly without a “willingness to suffer loss rather than depriving another.”
8) You shall not bear false witness (“Truth: A dedication to what is real and true, even if that reality
is against our interests”).—UH-OH! Do we really need to discuss this one? Just the lies of the SOTUS alone led Bush to not only violate this Commandment, but also Nos. 5, 7, & 10.
9) You shall not covet your neighbor's wife (“Purity: A desire to want only what God wills. A single-hearted devotion to God's way”)—The Pope told Bush that if he went into Iraq, he goes without God. So who’s God did Bush take with him into Iraq? Couldn’t be this One? Must be the one mentioned on US currency.
10) You shall not covet your neighbor's goods (“Generosity; A cooperation in God's own generosity that sees all goods as belonging to God and freely given for the good of all”)—I see: we all stand to benefit from the Iraqi War. Why then do I feel like there will be “winners” (Bush family and business partners, wealthy GOP), and “losers” (Iraqi people, US soldiers and their families, the world).
By my tally, Bush:
Breaks Commandments 1, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10
Upholds Commandment 4
Not Sure of Commandments 2, 3, 6
So why is the right-wing, Neo-Con, GOP fundies so enamored with Bush?
