1. Its real enough that it was published in a Middle Eastern newspaper..
MEMRI translates arabic newspaper stories.

2. Oh, come on, that simply HAS to be a parody!
There is NO WAY that that could actually be real. And if it is real, we're in a helluva lot more trouble in the ME than we ever could have imagined.

3. That's my point
I don't know that it is a parody. I've seen almost as ridiculous statements coming from the ME before.

5. Uh, I would assume the Statute of Limitations had run out by now....
Wasn't that about 4,000 years ago??

6. Yo would think so, wouldn't you?
But they seem to have long memories in the ME. More interesting is, "who would enforce such an order". I am assuming that a judge can be found to make such a ruling. People who have read some of m y other posts may have come to the conclusion that I don't like judges or courts. Or they may have totally ignored me.

9. It was 3,000 year ago. Give or take a few years.
The point of the whole story is that the Jews supposedly make all the claims based on documents written thousands of years ago and that if the Jews still have rights based on these documents, then so do the Egyptians.

10. The Jews seeking reparations
or right-of-return are mostly from 1948 onwards.

11. MEMRI is strongly linked to neo-cons/PNACkers
I think probably the translation service is a good thing, but it is pretty clear that they are monitoring the Arabic press for hints of "anti-Semitism"--they say as much. So their choice of what to translate is probably biased. Still, individual articles can probably be trusted to be translated fairly. Maybe.

Anyway, all the people associated with MEMRI are cozy with the people who are presently crafting our horrible foreign policy. Just thought I'd mention this here. It's probably also mentioned somewhere on the archived PNAC threads.

Here's a profile of Meyrav Wurmser, one of the founders of MEMRI:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/3034221.stm

<<Meyrav Wurmser is an expert in the Middle East and part of a neo-conservative family. Her husband David is special assistant to Undersecretary of State John Bolton and a member of the American Enterprise Institute. She is, along with a former Colonel in Israeli intelligence , the co-founder of a charity which monitors the Arab media for anti-semitic opinions . Mrs Wurmser was among a group of neo-conservatives who wrote a report intended as advice for the then incoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 1996.

The report, called "Rebuilding Zionism" called for a clean break with the Middle East peace process and talked about "rolling back Syria". It also spoke about removing Saddam Hussein from power. Other signatories of that report included Richard Perle, David Wurmser and Douglas Feith - who is now number three at the Pentagon. Mrs Wurmser says that although many of the neo-conservatives are Jewish, they are also able to criticise Israel. She also says that her allegiance is first and foremost to the United States.>>
