In my humble opinion, the Chief Justice of Alabama is making a monument of his lack of qualifications to be a judge. He's also doing a major disservice to Christians who want to become judges.

OK, there are a few Republican judges who have surprised me as they grew older and wiser, but why take a chance, and why wait?

Being a good judge is as difficult a job as I can conceive of.

A judge must be highly intelligent to learn, know, and understand the law and the "mechanics" of its application. Judges must be objective and unbiased in applying the law to the cases brought before them. A judge must possess an unassailable honesty in all dealings, both inside and outside of the courtroom.

And, unlike Mr. Moore, a judge should be "within approximately 1.5 standard deviations of the norm for sanity". ((Source: my own fevered brain.)
