Did some googling on Judge Chin and learned he was the first Asian American federal judge on the East Coast, appointed by President Clinton in 1994. He graduated from Stuyvesant High in New York - one of the finest high schools in the country. Test scores on entrance exams are the sole criteria for admission. (Bush boys could never have gotten in). The school has representation of every ethnicity and income level, and a very sophisticated curriculum. Chin next went to Princeton on a full scholarship and then on to Fordham Law School.
He's been involved in some very high profile cases, including an unpopular (but I think legally correct) ruling that the New York version of Megan's law could not be retroactively applied to pedophiles who had been convicted prior to passage of the new law - because once the courts have set a punishment, they cannot later increase it. From his rulings so far at the District Court level, I think he'd be very good at the Circuit (appellate level), but he'll never get that promotion until a Democrat is back in the oval office.
Thanks President Clinton for that judicial appointment.
