The MOTHERLOAD poll: Newsweek: Bush: Drip, drip, drip: Dems on rise
Bush's ratings are stabilizing....... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://msnbc.com/news/956458.asp?0cv=CB10

(drip)
SIXTY-NINE PERCENT of Americans polled say they are very concerned (40 percent) or somewhat concerned (29 percent) that the United States will be bogged down for many years in Iraq without making much progress in achieving its goals. Just 18 percent say they’re confident that a stable, democratic form of government can take shape in Iraq over the long term; 37 percent are somewhat confident. Just 13 percent say U.S. efforts to establish security and rebuild Iraq have gone very well since May 1, when combat officially ended; 39 percent say somewhat well.

(drip)
Against this backdrop, President George W. Bush’s approval ratings continue to decline. His current approval rating of 53 percent is down 18 percent from April. And for the first time since the question was initially asked last fall, more registered voters say they would not like to see him re-elected to another term as president (49 percent) than re-elected. Forty-four percent would favor giving Bush a second term; in April, 52 percent backed Bush for a second term and 38 percent did not.

(drip)
The biggest shift in opinion, however, comes in Bush’s handling of non-terror issues. A plurality of voters now think the Democratic leaders in Congress have a better approach to dealing with the economy, tax cuts, healthcare, education, social security, the environment and energy policy. In January 2002, more thought Bush had the best approach to handling all the issues above, except the environment.
Forty-five percent of respondents now think the Democratic party leaders are doing a better job of finding ways to stimulate the economy (36 percent say Bush is)—a huge shift from January 2002, when 55 percent thought Bush was better on the economy and just 29 percent thought Congressional Democrats were. Over the past year-and-a-half, Americans have also shifted their views of Bush’s tax cuts—45 percent prefer his cuts to those supported by Democratic leaders now, but that’s down 12 percent from January 2002.

5. Good news from the bad news.
Apparantly, the American people are beginning to catch on that just waving the flag, flightsuit machismo, talking about democracy in a country while shooting it's citizens, handing money to the wealthy, and begging for more, a la "Bring 'em on", is not working.

Too bad that it takes the deaths of soldiers, Iraqi civilians, and UN workers to open their eyes. Not to mention the handing over of our country to the tender mercies of corporatists to plunder.

6. We're at the critical junction
Unless they pull off a spectacular PR coup, the next poll will have him below 50%. This is it, we're at the turning point...

9. I know, that was a great line...
...and I don't know, I think everytime the press calls him the "wildly popular president" at 53% approval, we should respond, "Does that mean Clinton was a godlike figure of worship at the height of the impeachment proceedings with a 70ish% approval?"

Everytime someone in the media refers to him as the "popular president", we should email and ask them if by that the mean that he's popular amongst his campaign contributors and the Saudis, because those seem to be the only folks he's concerned with...

12. Curious
When was the last time you heard anyone call Whistle Ass "popular"? I haven't been hearing it lately.

Good numbers! Thanks for posting them.

8. I'm waiting for the media..
to stop calling him "the popular president." He ain't. I have the most Republican family members in the history of time, and they're uber-pissed at the rise in non-military spending. It's funny watching it, and they all admit that the deficit will have to be paid-back.. with interest.

13. We have a company chat room at work
It was set up by mistake, but anyway, we all get on there and talk pretty freely. The conservatives have been oh-so silent lately. Yesterday I posted a link to that Time piece (thank you DU!), and the biggest *ssh*le came on saying he doesn't read Time because of its liberal bias. One of the more reasonable conservative asked him to please read the article and say what he found biased.

That resulted in utter and total silence. No one has ever managed to get that guy to shut up before. Never.

The truth is sinking in with all of them (except the lone *ssh*le). Whistle Ass is history.

15. And we still have well over a year to go.
At this rate he may be run out of town before the next election. It is imperative that we don't run a bush-lite candidate. it's time to bury this turd.

16. I'd like to think it's "something we said" but
I think it's because the GI's are complaining and calling this a lying, fucking, hell hole and shall we say, expressing their hatred for Iraqis similar to the boys with the white sheets expressing their hatred of blacks at a KKK meeting. And, Mom and Dad and Sis and Bro and spouse who were so "durn prouuud to be an Amurekan" suddenly feel like second class shit being used by pampered country club bastards to boost up their oil stocks. Thus, the word is spreading through the bars, the vets clubs, the bowling alleys, the church, and the bingo parlors. Maybe they should have listened to those "unpatriotic commies" who told them that this is exactly how this was going to turn out.
