I hope this isn't a dupe.

Porter Goss admits that he's not qualified to head CIA. Typical. This administration seems to have a fetish for putting people in positions that they aren't qualified for or that they themselves want to abolish.

1. Well
I think there is a difference between management and working in the trenches. It seems that he is saying he doesn't have the skills (like Arabic linguist) to be a CIA officer today, but I think that is different from being able to lead an agency, which involves more management skills than technical.

>>quote from article: The White House dismissed the Moore interview transcript as "ridiculous hearsay" and emphasized the depth of bipartisan respect for Goss on Capitol Hill.

Hearsay???? Isn't it the man himself talking??? Good find, Mike!!

5. It would be nice to know what else was on the interview
And the context. Perhaps he will release the entire tape?

12. Yes, we wouldn't want to criticize a Repuke unfairly
After all, there is a chance that Goos is one of us, right?

4. That may be...
...but given the track record of this administration I'd still give much weight to his words here. The Bush administration does have a tendency to put people in positions for which they are not qualified. Think Condi Rice or Tom Ridge.

6. Yeah, I don't know one way or another
But if Bush is doing it, it's probably wrong.

8. i wonder the same thing
My husband and I were discussing last night what we think the Dems are going to do about Goss. If they agressively try to block him (because he really isn't qualified), it could be spun in the media to look like the left is playing politics when the country is at risk. If they support him, we end up with a crappy director. My prediction: they'll make a few objections but in the end wimp out and let him be confirmed.

9. Certainly his language skills are lacking
since he refers to Arabs as "Arabists".

14. How positively "Arabesque" of him....
Bwahaha...

For a "boss" who is the paradigm for "failing upward", why shouldn't Goss be given a chance to do the same?

10. The only qualifications needed for appointment by this Administration
are that their politics be right, far-right, and they also IMHO possess the other essential qualities of any true-believer: mendacity, hypocrisy, reichousness, sanctimoniousness, and duplicitousness. But there I go being cynical again.
