Environmental terrorists
http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid=34&in=business&cat=automobiles_and_driving

What can I say? F*cking idiots!

Not only do they tarnish the reputation of good-willed environmentalists who try to advance their beliefs through reason, and persuasion. But they also probably polluted a great deal by smoke from the burning warehouse, burning metal, burning chemicals, and burning the tires. These are like those people who drive around all day warning everybody else about car pollution.

I absolutely abhor these stupid acts of vandalism, like those who desecrated a graveyard in Normandy to protest the war in Iraq. What did those fallen soldiers do to deserve their honour trampled upon? Political statements are good in a democracy, but not when it endangers innocent people, like in this arson case.

2. An unsigned email?
Could it be they are being scapegoated? Now I agree with you one hundred percent that vandalism and radical acts do nothing to advance the causes of environmentalism and animal rights, two causes I am especially close to. I have avoided the more radical groups for this reason in favor of the Sierra Club and other more mainstream organizations.

However, I think a little more proof of their involvement is needed besides an unsigned email.

3. Yes, more proof is needed, I agree
Before our rage is let loose fairly. This could be some sick, super-smear campaign by some very extreme anti-environmentalists. I can't comprehend how anybody could be "anti-environmental." I mean, to put it into perspective, most of the conservatives are not as concerned about the environment. Yet it is they who are the majority of rural folk, the ones who would appreciate a good environment the most, rather than the yuppies. You'd think they'd be MORE environmental, but you'd be wrong.

4. A word about rural folks.
They appreciate nature, but they need their jobs and they know the environment is being exploited to no good end result. Yet, they will say that they aren't going to be around when it happens. *bangs head against an old growth tree*

6. well, the ELF did issue a press release
Edited on Sat Aug-23-03 05:26 PM by disgruntella
To me it sounds like "we neither confirm nor deny"
http://www.earthliberationfront.com/news/2003/082203.shtml

And from this quote, it sounds like this is ELF's milieu:
"The Earth Liberation Front is an international underground organization that uses direct action in the form of economic sabotage to stop the destruction of the natural environment. Since 1997, the ELF in North America has caused over $100 million in damages to entities who profit from the destruction of life and the planet."

Edit: in case there is any confusion, i am not condoning the ELF actions - just pointing out it's not an anti-environmentalist conspiracy

9. I don't support these tactics.

Sitting in a tree so a crew can't cut the tree down is one thing, but out and out vandalism does not advance anyone's cause.

5. I don't support actions like this
And I strongly repute these extremist groups. Violence and the destruction of private proptery are not appropriate ways to make political statements.

7. Damn the extremists
Extremists at either end of the spectrum are no better than each other. There is an envelope you can push, sanely and safely, without going into a violent and dangerous frenzy, as is the case with extremists.

What's truly sad is the environmental cost of the burnt chemicals from the fuel, tires, metal, and warehouse that will further pollute the environment. These extremists are no environmentalists.
