I was out of town and off the news grid last week, but the last I heard there is still a decision to be made that could affect the actual voting date. We need to be vigilant and working until the vote actually happens.

17. Two reasons why Republicans dropping out might not make a difference

First, you have to keep in mind that dropping out doesn't remove your name from the 100+ candidate ballot. So, if someone sees a name they recognize, nothing's going to stop them from voting for that person.

Ok, with that in mind, you have to consider that (1) the early polls which have these people "taking" votes from Arnold are reflections of what? It's not like they campaigned to get those numbers. Obvioulsy, when that polling was taken, Arnold was the most high-profile candidate, and was taking all the air from those candidates already. So (2) I don't see why the polling AFTER they drop out should change Arnolds' numbers dramatically. People are going to stop seeing Simon commercials? They weren't seeing them before.

Dropping out only makes a difference if you were campaigning, and showing commercials, and getting endorsements, and taking up the other guys' air. I really don't think Arnold is going to get a boost because a bunch of Republicans who were on the ballot two weeks ago and not really campaigning, are still on the ballot and not really campaigning, but are saying they wouldn't serve if elected and don't plan on starting to campaign.

People who say it is S's race to lose have it wrong. It is Bustamante's race to lose. All he needs to do is win the No voters and it's in the bag. I figure at least 40% will vote no, and it could be as high as 48%. Davis will likely lose, but I don't see any No voters voting for anyone other than Bustamante.

I think that so-called "charisma" has a big effect on voters. (He just disgusts me, just like bush.) Also, the republican cabal hasn't even gotten started on this yet. They will be as dirty and crooked in this election as the Disaster of 2000. republicans are behind this recall all the way and undoubtedly convinced swarzenagger at the last minute to run, after it had been reported for a week that he wasn't going to.

It just pisses me off that the GOP spent tons of money to overturn a legitimate election and force the cash-strapped state of California to spend millions of dollars on a new election, money that could have been spent on education.

This just reinforces my notion that Republicans are like spoiled brats that will do anything to get their way, even if it hurts their state or their country.
