The BBC hosted a unique global television debate about America's place in the world with 10 other national broadcasters.

As part of the What The World Thinks of America programme, 11,000 people in the UK, France, Russia, Indonesia, South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Canada, Israel, Brazil and the US responded to a poll asking their views and opinions on America.

The respondents were asked about their general attitudes towards America and US President George Bush.

The poll also posed a range of other questions on America's foreign policy, military power, cultural influences and economic might.

This could be an important talking point for the Democratic candidate.

It would also go a long way toward showing how WEAK the Republicans really are on defense and foreign affairs.

Running around in a fighter suit does not a leader make. Just shows how Bush really understands his role is still that of cheerleader. (Note: He WAS a cheerleader at Andover.)

Get the cheerleader off the field and let a real statesman steer.

NOTHING pisses me off more than the fact that the American public bought that line. Thank (well, I'm an agnostic, so thank nobody) that I can at least claim to have voted for Gore.

I absolutely have to live in this country for another 12 years (that's when the gov't pension kicks in). I'm almost absolutely leaving then, regardless of the political climate (Costa Rica calls). I'd like to be able to make some difference here in the 12 years I have left. As long as the average American pays more attention to cute phrases than issues, it's never going to happen.

As a side rant: Is anybody else convinced that we're (Americans) resting on our laurels? If so, isn't that REALLY dangerous right about now?
