Why are labor unions anti-Chavez in Venezuela (according to Reuters)?
"A loose coalition of political parties, labor unions and civilian groups, the opposition is often united only by its hatred of Chavez. They had struggled to present a clear alternative to his leftist ``revolution'' for the poor."
---Reuters

Maybe these are skilled trade unions that have already achieved their salary and health care demands and so are happy with the status quo. But I would think the regular unions that include all workers without qualification would be pro Chavez.

3. In Chile
The truckers union was against Allende, and was instrumental in crippling the Chilean economy. Oh wait, the CIA paid off the union, could this be the reason, too.

4. It's mostly just one union, the CTV (oilworkers)
CTV hasn't always been squarely in the anti-Chavez camp, either. They found out much to their surprise that Pedro Carmona's two-day government (after the coup) totally left them out in the cold. In addition, there was some news last year of a plan to assassinate of the head of the CTV by other opposition forces, in an attempt to blame it on pro-Chavez groups.

Other unions, such as the steelworker's union, are if not pro-Chavez, are not anti-Chavez either.

Many in the pro-Chavez press have accused the CTV of hardly functioning as a union at all, being more like an extension of the opposition.
