PORTLAND — The project to create a statewide voter-registration system has been put on hold because of a complaint about the selection process used to choose the firm to build it.
Election officials tentatively selected a vendor, but a competitor protested. At the same time, some county officials fear that the chosen firm is not experienced enough to handle the project.
Those involved in the state’s review of six proposals for the system defended the process.
“I’m willing to defend that decision to my fellow county clerks,” said Al Davidson, the county clerk in Marion County who was part of a 13-person committee that reviewed the proposals.
