but generally, when people are arrogant and they are criticized they get angry. I saw Clark on Fox News a while ago, and he was criticized extensively because Clinton had talked about weapons of mass destruction. I noticed that he remained perfectly calm as he responded.

...while Clark was CINC EUCOM. It was well known that Clark's subordinates couldn't stand him. I think he was perceived as being too political, too image-conscious, that sort of thing.

If I recall, the story was that they really disliked his predecessor, George Joulwan, but as soon as Clark took over, they wished they had Joulwan back.

I am studiously neutral on Clark's candidacy, so no flaming. Just stating what I remember from hearing officers bitch about Clark.

5. You know, this petty name calling amazes me.

What amazes me even more is that it's news and is repeated in press, etc.

"Perfume Prince", "Supreme Being", whatever. That is so high school. Did he get the job done or not?

And there is NO WAY you can convince me that Clark would be the only candidate who is a little headstrong, image conscious, and bossy.

If I heard that the House speaker in VT called Dean "Thick-Necked Jerk", would I be seeing that quoted as newsworthy? Would I be reading that at DU as a valid criticism?

12. every candidate for this job should expect to have his record scrutinized

... that includes Clark. however, Clark is unique in having spent his entire career in an institution that is largely insulated from civilian review, and where insider criticism of higher-ups is a punishable offense. Clark has no political track record. all we the public have to go on is his very heavily filtered military record, plus the kind of off-the-record complaints cited above. since the info about this candidate is so limited, it's no wonder his handlers are trying to sell him as some kind of saint.

i think the Clark-worshipping here is sickening. i'd no more vote for a "democrat" who refuses to declare his party, than i would vote for a candidate who refused to declare his nationality. if he's not proud to be a democrat, then what business does he have asking the dem party to bet EVERYTHING on him (a man with NO track record in electoral politics). suppose Hatch's proposed amendment was passed, and foreign-born people could run for president. would you vote for a candidate who refused to say whether he considered himself an American? i sure hope not. anyone who wants to lead this country should be proud to SHOUT that he's an American. the same goes for the dem party. if he wants to become the standard bearer of the democratic party, then Clark should be SHOUTING that he's proud to be a democrat (yes, like Dean), instead of speaking in riddles.

and yes, imho Clark's behavior to the contrary bespeaks an extreme and repulsive arrogance.
