I thought DU might enjoy the shocking anti-Jessica Lynch movie rhetoric from the Dallas Morning News, normally a solidly Republican paper. Apparently this joke of a story is being filmed here in North Texas.
This comes from one of their interactive features, a forum called "Texas Talkback" where the paper asks a question, you can answer, and they post some of the answers online.

Voice your thoughts on the planned Jessica Lynch TV movie, now in production in North Texas.
Here's what other people are saying:
The country needs to realize that the real heroes are the men and women of the Armed Forces, not Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez or any of the other overpaid, propped-up heroes of today. But this "made for TV" movie is not the way to spotlight their heroism. Instead, this is an attempt to exploit these service people for profit and ratings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole film is a farse, the rescue was a staged propoganda ploy and unless they tell the TRUTH in the movie it will remain propoganda!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is just another example of the networks glamorizing war to make a profit. My only interest would be to hear Pvt. Lynch explain what happened in her own words. Other than that, you can't believe what they show you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm waiting on the "America Loves Jessica" lunchbox.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't understand why they are making a movie about Jessica Lynch. She was not the only soldier captured or injured. She was'nt even the only female soldier captured. So why single her out when she did nothing special. I don't think its fair to the other soldier that were captured or injured. Although I can appreciate the suffering and pain she must have endured. But, this is not a story worth making a movie of.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only because she's a FEMALE. If it would have been a male solider there never would have been this much hype and would have never been a movie made of it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed reading some of the comments on your talk back about the Jessica Lynch movie, that only one was positive. It seems weall think this movie should never be made. The sad thing is little Jessica is going right along with it. She says she can't remember the ordeal but she remember the line "I am an American soldier too"
hmmm? She did nothing to deserve the hero treatment she is receiving...this is just hollywood hogwash...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is Jessica Lynch being treated as a hero? A hero by definition is some one who performs an heroic deed or distinguished service. She has done neither. She is a solidier who was sent to a country we were at war with and was captured as so many others have been before her. Her resque was orchestrated by hollywood types znd put on film. There was no resistance to her resque. Why all the lies. What about the other POW's that were resqued later? Why have we not made movies of their stories? This is not Jessica's fault this is happening. For this to be exploited by a bunch of greedy TV and book people is beyond what I think this country standss for. I am not interested in seeing or reading about Jessica Lynch. There are more heroic tales to tell than this one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
please. do we really need this?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let it rest. Anything for a buck. People are still dying over there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just another movie to make money for all that's involved.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
anything for a buck
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that unless they film the real truth about her story and not the BUSH version of events, it will just be more of the administration´s propoganda about this war. But then again, given the state of the media in America these days, we´ll see the full lie version and them the mjority of american´s will believe it to be just as true as the supposed Iraq-Osama link. Truly a damning statement about the stae of the country!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm thrilled she was "recovered", but it appears that the situation was hardly an escape, and why isn't more attention being given to those soldiers and other military personnel who gave their lives in this "action"?
So, she was captured...she's obviously very much alive, so she therefore didn't make the ultimate sacrifice for her country. She's nothing but a young, very inexperienced soldier whose entire company was in the wrong place because they made a mistake and took a wrong turn.
What about those eleven soldiers that were killed? Who's going to star in THEIR movie??
I think it's a very sad commentary that our media is going to capitalize on the fact that they had cameras rolling for her release, and turn this into a circus.
May the rest of our fighting men and women return safely and quickly, and may the families of all those who gave their lives know that their sacrifice is not forgotten. Bless us all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow I did not know someone would turn this into a white and black issue. Never the less, I do not think the picture is a good idea. There were far more heroic acts, some told and others where not, in the war with Iraq
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
..Totally Unnecessary.
she was doing a paid job. She did not volunteer her services to the forces.
What about the many unsung heroes of the war? Soldiers who went down and soldiers who still fight day in day out???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the media has over dramatized the Jessica Lynch story enough already. There are bound to be thousands of soldiers doing more heroic and interesting things. The attention given to this one young woman's misadventure is actually disrespectful to all the other brave troops who are making far greater sacrafices for their country.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHY DO A MOVIE ABOUT A WHITE GIRL? YOU HAVE OTHERS THAT WERE POW ALSO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS UP WITH WHITE AMERICANS BECAUSE THEY TEND TO OVERSENSATIONALIZE THE WRONG THINGS. HELL, SHE WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE IN IRAQ. WHAT ABOUT THE BLACK GIRL THAT GOT HER FOOT BLOWN OFF? DO A MOVIE ABOUT HER. NOOOOOOO,THAT IS TOO MUCH LIKE RIGHT BECAUSE THE MOVIE WOULD NOT GET ANY GOOOD RATINGS FOR NBC.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Before interest wanes"?! Sorry, my interest waned the moment I found out the whole shebang was over-hyped and falsely contrived by the media. So basically this movie that NBC is producing is a sequel. The original was aired in bits and pieces by CNN. What about the other POW's who have been rescued? Will they get their own movies too? I'm sure their experiences were much more harrowing. And, oh yeah, based on true facts that REALLY happened! Hopefully TVLand will be airing a "McGiver" marathon the night this drivel premiers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The funny thing about this Lynch story is that she got all this attention because she was a female soldier. Nobody is making a movie about the other male soldiers that were captured in her convoy. Why???? Where in all this mess did we get this story that she was so heroic, fighting until she had no ammo. In truth she tried to surrender at the first opportunity. And for that we make a movie about her??? It's an insult to the memories of those fallen soldiers in her unit that this movie is going to focus on her and not her comrades. In fact why not make a movie about the true hero's of this episode, the men sent in to do the the real work of saving her from that Iraqi hospital. They were never publicly reconized, nor I bet were they ever decorated like she was. But being the professional that they are they would never complain nope they'd keep right on doing the mission. Those are the hero's of this story and not some scared little kid who tried to surrender at the first sound of gun fire while her comrades fought and died trying to keep her alive.
Sincerly,
Shane
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
its stupid but will make some jerk some money
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good to see some motion picture production back in our area. Hope local performers & production staff are employed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why make it? Nobody is going to watch it. The whole senario was a farce to begin with. Don't support the advertisers of this crap. More feel-good TV programming from big brother. Maybe they will make a true-life story at some point in time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ms. Lynch is not a hero by any definition. She and another female soldier were running from a group of Iraq soldiers in a Humvee when they flipped their vehicle over and were subsequently captured. She was treated relatively well by the Iraqs and is expected to make a full recoverey.
Her ordeal is being sensationalized by the media because she is a female. In reality, her case should be an example that women should not be placed in a combat roles.
Enough already of this over-blown story!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What a waste of energy. Jessica Lynch is not a hero because she didn't do anything but get captured, then rescued. Only mindless idiots would pay to see this nonsense.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think its great.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really don't understand that reason why this story of a war vet is any different from any others. They all put there lives on the line for us. Why should there be this BIG DEAL about just one ...I PERSONALY don't think it's far to the one who DIED and GAVE THERE LIVES.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What about the others she was with? How about a movie about them. How about a movie based on the lives of the 300+ who have died over there? This is just another way for Hollywood to make money. I wouldn't spend a dime on going to see a movie like this. I feel extemely sorry for her and the terrors she went through, but focusing a movie solely based on her is wrong when others have suffered too and died for this tremendous cause.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hoooooww stupid!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems as if we're using PFC. Lynch as the focal point and rallying cry for the war in Iraq. What about the 275 other soldiers who weren't as lucky as she? The events surrounding her capture and rescue are under intense scrutiny. She wasn't shot, her vehicle was hit by an RPG. Iraqi forces were long gone when the special ops forces invaded the hospital. It's nice for us to have her back but what about the less fortunate families?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the TV movie should be about the "whole unit" that Jessica Lynch was in at the time of their captured. The movie should be focus on the "whole unit", because all their lives were saved(Thank God). They all suffered some kind of injuries and pain, some more severe than others. They will never forget this. I don't remember what unit they were in, but I think the TV movie should be titled "Saving Unit ?? in Iraq".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's all about money. Instead of wasting it on some stupid movie, why don't people spend it on troops presently in Iraq.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
