Russian occupyers seize girls & women as hostages
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 09:04 PM by Aidoneus
I'll try to find the Council of NGO's original in English elsewhere, since my translation kind of sucks.. but here goes:

Russian occupyers seize girls & women as hostages

According to data of the Council of NGOs, on September 7th they had carried out a so-called "cleansing operation" in Argun area. According to the information obtained from people who live in the city, in the course of the action Russian occupyers had seized a local inhabitant, aged (?-35/36)yrs old. The last name of the hostage is withheld (?--wasn't sure about this word).

On September 7th in the province center, the Russian occupyers seized 2 local inhabitants, Magomadova (34yo) and (?--her? sister?/daughter?) Musayeva (16yo). Magomadova & Musayeva are referred to as "terrorists" preparing an operation in the territory of Russia.

Natives of the city and those familiar with them say that neither Magomadova nor Musayeva ever referred to any military actions and their seizure is nothing more than a act of kidnapping.

The location and further fate of these hostages are not known.

(on edit: spaced some things out & softened my tone a bit--didn't mean to be so snippy at the start)

But with respect to your warning, I would advice actually reading it or my note at the top:--they're just passing on the Council of NGO's briefing. The sort of reports are usually at the Russian language pages earlier (just a couple days after the kidnappings take place), then a few of them occasionally filter into the English realm eventually.

This sort of hostage-taking actually happens quite often and doesn't get noticed much, so I thought I'd try my hand at doing some of the bridgework myself on this one, if only for the timing and increased awareness. I found that my hand is quite flawed, so do forgive all of the uncertain portions! Working on translating some note from Roshal from Daymohk, but I'm not good at this at all.. it's probably elsewhere, but I have to do things the hard way.

At any rate, there has been a great deal of very biased sources tossed back with little caution.

3. no Englished update yet, but others
(not my translation, and a bit 'off', but the main points are easily understood)

Splash of violence apprehended in North Osetia

The spread of anti-Ingush sentiments in the Prigorodny district of North Osetia gives concern in Ingushetia, and a new splash of violence against ethnic Ingushetians living there is apprehended. Such suppositions are caused by several incidents that occurred both in the Prigorodny district itself and on the border with Ingushetia. For instance, in the village of Oktyabrskoye in the Prigorodny district, a group of young men, armed with reinforcement bars and spades, made an attempt to organize a pogrom in the village of Kartsa, populated mainly by the Ingush population. Due to the opportune interference of law enforcers mass riots were prevented. But there is still tension in the region.

Under the decision of Osetian authorities, virtually all hospital patients of Ingush nationality are discharged from North Osetian patient care institutions "with the purpose of providing their personal safety", a source in the Ingush Committee for Refugees and IDPs (internally displaced persons) told the Caucasian Knot correspondent. Ingush students studying in the institutions of higher education in Vladikavkaz are excused from lessons with the same purpose.

(also a bit too literal on the translation, but it'll due)

House explosion in Chechen village

A mortar shell caused an explosion of a dwelling house in the village of Chechen-Aul, Chechnya's Grozny district. On the night of September 5, the private house was completely destroyed as a result of the explosion in the village of Chechen-Aul. Investigators have established the happening was caused by mortar fire. "We've established that the village of Chechen-Aul was bombarded with mortar shells on the night on September 5. Locals assert the bombardment came from the direction of the Russian military unit stationed in the vicinity of the village. Several shells exploded in the immediate center of the village. The house of local Yurtkhanova was completely destroyed as a result of it. The aged woman herself sustained many injuries as she was pressed down by a collapsed house wall," an officer of the Chechen Interior Ministry said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent. Chechen-Aul residents are utterly indignant about the incident. The republican military commandant's staff have refused to give any comments, claiming conclusions will be made up only after investigation is over.

Arrests and Kidnappings in Chechnya

CHECHNYA, Grozny. (SNO Information Centre). On 7 September, in the district centre Shali, Russian forces arrested two local residents: 34-year-old Louisa Magomadova and 16-year-old Medni Musaeva, claiming they were suicide bomber terrorists preparing the next terrorist act in Russia.

Relatives and friends of the two women insist that neither, especially the underage Musaeva, have ever had
any sort of connection with either terrorist acts or with any sort of illegal activity. The fate of the women and their present location remain unknown.

On 8 September, Argun was subjected to more than one of the so-called ‘zachistki’ . Townspeople say that ‘silovki’ arrested a local resident. during the operation.
