a little about Taco Bell...
from Patt Morrison's column:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-polcol25aug25,1,5056556.story

• Taco Bell, the Orange County-based fast-food chain, is asking patrons to vote with their stomachs. Ordering a certain beef taco will count as a vote for Schwarzenegger, a certain burrito will count as a vote for any of the 134 other candidates, and a soft chicken taco order counts as a vote of support for Gov. Gray Davis. The menu-vote selection — Schwarzenegger, beef, Davis, chicken, get it? — could be said to reflect the political preferences of a man who until three years ago owned 13 Orange County Taco Bells: former Republican assemblyman Bill Campbell, who once displayed pictures of Taco Bell Chihuahuas among photos of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush in his Sacramento office.

5. It's still on their website.
Not that I eat there anyway, but will add it
to Carl's Jr. as a place not to spend money.

6. I get it alright and I took ACTION!
If this is still going on, call up 1-800-TACOBELL like I did. I gave them HELL! I said, "How would like being a decorated Vietnam veteran and be compared to a chicken? Be advised, I will never buy anything from your restaurant again!"

The person I spoke with sounded like a black woman and she was unaware of this whole thing and guess what? She was as disgusted as I am! :grr:

Give 'em HELL! No more Taco Bell!

:kick:

13. just got off the phone with them
they have no intention of removing the promotion. Don't eat there but kids love those crunchy beef 69 cent tacos. I guess they will be eating tacos from Jack until they are 18.

10. Taco Bell is part of YUM
A general boycott of any YUM restaurant might get their
attention....

The company's flagship brands include KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. Yum! also owns A&W All-American Food Restaurants and Long John Silver's. In addition, the company owns a stake in Yan Can, a start-up fast casual Asian restaurant chain.

11. thanks for the info.
I knew they were part of YUM but I had no idea what encompassed YUM. Luckily, I don't eat any of their food (nor was I ever a patron of Taco Bell's either :puke: ).

cheers and keep on keepin' on!!

17. I guess I'll have to
It's okay, it'll do me good to actually get my lazy ass out of the car to get my melted cheese fix.

Luckily I don't eat at any of those other YUM places, so it's a small sacrifice.

LaTolteca - here I come!

8. PCUSA Already Boycotting for their Farm Labor Policies
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 11:24 AM by WoodrowFan
My church, the PCUSA (the main Presbyterian church in the US) has already begun a boycott on Taco Bell. Here are some details and a linmk.. (note to medorators, I don't belive this is copyrighted...)

The PC(USA) Taco Bell Boycott is on!
The 214th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) approved, by a vote of 297 to 176 with 21 abstentions, Overture 44 from the Presbytery of Tampa Bay, calling on Presbyterians to support a national boycott of Taco Bell Restaurants and products until tomato growers and Taco Bell agree to negotiate with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers about working and living conditions.

Background

In a nutshell, Taco Bell is a major client of Florida tomato growers who are paying sub-poverty wages to their workers. If you were at the Assembly or have visited our website (pcusa.org/boycott) you’ve learned that the average wage earned by tomato pickers in Immokalee, Florida has been stagnant for over twenty years. For example, workers who pick tomatoes for the Six L’s Packing Company earn 40 cents for every 32 pound bucket they pick and haul. That means they need to pick two tons of tomatoes to earn 50 dollars. Most farmworkers in Immokalee make between $6500 – 8000 a year.

This action by the General Assembly furthers the PC(USA)'s historic support of immigrants and farmworkers in the United States that has taken the form of public policy advocacy, grants to farmworker support organizations, and active participation in the National Farm Worker Ministry. Southwest Florida is one of the nation's most important centers for agricultural production, and Immokalee is home to Florida's largest farmworker community. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is a community-based worker organization located in Southwest Florida, with a diverse membership of Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian immigrants working in low-wage jobs throughout the state. The majority of CIW members are farmworkers who spend 8-9 months of the year in Florida, then travel north during the summer months for other jobs in agriculture.

The CIW strives to strengthen their community through attention to coalition building across ethnic divisions, reflection and analysis, and leadership development to help workers improve their skills in community education and organization. The CIW advocates for a fair wage, more respect from employers, better and affordable housing, stronger laws and stronger enforcement against violators of workers' rights, the right to organize on the job without fear of retaliation, and an end to 'sweatshops' in the fields.

16. Taco Bell
My son was in Florida recounting the horror of visiting Latinos when being asked about going to Taco Bell, which sounded to their ears like the words for Mad Cow.

Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are Pepsi Empire nutritional outlets are they not?

18. Taco Bell fare is garbage.
I wouldn't call it "food" and I wouldn't give it to starving hogs. The only thing I can think of to say in their favor is their "stuff" makes a real good laxative. I get the trots whenever I eat their crap. Whenever I'm in the mood for Mexican food I know of a few real good local reataurants that I enjoy.

21. Check out the fat content...
I *USED* to eat there on Wednesday night on the way home from the laundro-mat...Thought it was healthier than a "Beeg Mec" (Ruskie slang for "pimp")

No more.

A "number six" with pintos and cheese actually has enough grams of fat to keep me going for a week....
Never lose 90 pounds doin' THAT....
