9. RNC is trying to say

that the Kerry campaign and CBS coordinated the memo attack because the CBS producer, Mapes, called Lockhart about meeting with Burkett (on Burkett's insistence). Lockhart was interviewed and said "the Kerry campaign had NOTHING to do with the memos and neither did I and the RNC knows it. That's why they're (RNC) afraid to debate me on it. They know I'm telling the truth."

CBS News has an outside investigator looking into the memo issue. The report on CBS News said that a reporter with 60 Minutes, Mapes, was the one who put McCaullif in contact with Burkett. This is why Gillespie accuses CBS of colluding with the Kerry campaign to impugn Bush.

Burkett wanted CBS to set up a meeting with Lockhart so he could fill Lockhart in on how to deal with the smearboat ads. The only way he would turn over the memos was if Mapes set up this phone call between Lockhart and Burkett. Mapes got the memos, called Lockhart and told him she knew this guy who wanted to talk to him. She gave him Burkett's phone number and told Joe it was up to him if he wanted to call. Joe called, they talked for 4 minutes and that is the end of that saga. :hi:

I think she is one of the good guys. She broke the Abu Ghraib story.

If I understood what was said on CBS news tonight, she "put Burkett in touch" with Lockhart, by simply giving him Lockharts phone number when Burkett requested it. I would think that info would have been fairly easy for him to get anyway. It may not have been wise for Mapes to give him the #, but I think understandable. It sounded to me more like a favor to save her source some time in looking for info he would get anyway.

12. Dan looked almost giddy tonight

at the end of the show when he says goodnight, he smiled and I thought he was gonna wink for a second. All that stress and strain showing on his face is now gone. Sumpin's up;-)

He's broken my heart, and seriously damaged my efforts to raise funds for MoveOnPac with my buttons. But I just can't believe he'd so something so transparently, unprofessionally STUPID. All I can hope for now is that he's pretending he screwed up as part of a "reverse sting" which will prove that he was the "victim" of a setup that can be linked to the Bush White House. With the RNC claiming that the DNC is the culprit, and Burkett's source nowhere to be found, it at least possible.
