(I snapped this on my way home from work today)

If you can't read it, the license plate reads 2 TUFF.

On edit: Isn't technology great? I love the fact that you can take a photo and have it viewed by hundreds of people in a couple of minutes.

4. I was being somewhat facetious.
I think anyone should be allowed to say just about anything. (To be fair, I followed home a Mercedes SUV the other day with a vanity plate that read LIBERAL.)

This reminds me of a sorority girl's car I saw when I was in college--it was a bright-red BMW convertible with vanity plates that read THNX DAD.

But if I had Bushco kind of money, Id love to have one to play with offroad (on my own "ranch" of course). :)

But I think they are nuts for an everyday driving vehicle.

It probably costs this clown upward of $80 to gas up the main tank and the reserve, and he goes a grand total of 250 miles on that assuming mostly city driving.

83. And he probably gets that from Bush*'s tax cuts , which you help pay for
People that can afford such a piece of crap like that aren't worried about $80. for fuel. You will pay for it in the long run anyway and that sends them into spasms of laughter. The more fuel costs rise the more money Bush* gets for his campaign and in return the more he rewards his rich constituents. It's definitely a trickle up effect. Only it isn't really trickling it's pouring.

24. Insurance? You said the magic word.
I would like to outlaw most insurance as an industry. They, more than any other capitalistic industry, have helped create the mess in health care in our country today. It's the only industry that takes money in exchange for nothing. Insurance should be legislated so that it only is allowed to insure catastrophes and disasters, which is what it was orginally intended for.

Anything else I believe should be handled by an agency government, like health care, malpractice and worker's compensation. I know I haven't mentioned everything, but it's just a post in general about how I feel about insurance.

I also worked in the industry for about a year. These were the hardest drinkers I ever met and I had to change jobs just to keep from turning into an alcoholic.

A. Arnold Schwarzennegger back in 1992 as a publicity stunt for the Hummer debut.
This according to the authors of Waeapons of Mass Deception, that I am reading now.

75. Arnold also drives a civilian or industrial version of a German tank
called a Unimog, according to a book I read called "High and Mighty: SUVs: The World's Most Dangerous Vehicles and How They Got That Way." Really interesting book by a auto industry reporter for the NY Times. Says cars and minivans are much safer than SUVs and trucks for the drivers and passengers as well as other people on the road. Talks all about the psychology of the SUV drivers.

I read a quote by Craig Kilborn about Hummers that was really funny. Something like, "I was thinking of buying a Hummer, but I thought it would be cheaper to tattoo 'I need attention' on my forehead."

I am reading "Weapons of Mass Deception" now too. Very interesting book.

87. an UNIMOG isn't a tank (OK there is a military version)
It's a vehicle used woldwide to reach place a normal SUV can't.
They're build for eternity, so there are some really old mogs around (they started building them directly after the war).

It's very popular among firefighters, forest guards, shepards, construction crews, ...

It looks like a pick-up with a fancy shell.

84. That's EXACTLY what it is!
Why do you think GM loves them so much? They can take a $12,000 pickup, add $10,000 worth of parts and bodywork and sell it for $70,000! Genius!

(BTW, I realize that is a tad simplistic and doesn't take into account GM's R&D, marketing, etc. But, the reason car companies love SUVs is the fact that the margins are much higher than they are with regular cars.)

49. What a joke...
The H2s are regular old SUVs (built on a Tahoe chassis, IIRC). See that big-assed Universal Joint in the pic? Ground clearance? I think not.

What a waste. What's really pathetic is that it's popular with people who want the image, but can't scare up the bucks for the "real thing".

58. That "image" is tarnishing rapidly.
Most people are starting to automatically cry out "what an asshole" whenever they see one of those hunks of crap.

Actually..

Isnt that the point of the license tag? I've never understood the mentality of people who hide license tags in photos.

I mean, they are MEANT to be public.

63. Heh..
No..

But if law was passed that it made it illegal to be a Republican, I might sign up just to fight it (although my beliefs wouldnt change)

Its about Freedom. Freedom to vote for who you want. Freedom to spend your money as you see fit (and if thats on an suv, so be it).

As for a Hummer, I think they are a waste of money. Way to big on the outside, way to small on the inside, way to big of a price tag, way to small of a MPG number.

56. In all seriousness...
I think you'll find that the same people who buy Hummers also buy guns for their personal defense. They are people who view the world as a predominately hostile place and who have given in to fear. The problem is that, in both cases, they make the world just that more dangerous for the rest of us.

dangerous for the rest of us."

They seem to think that that is OUR problem. A very self involved way of going through life.

67. BCSD
IMHO most of the people (note I said most, not all, as I don't want to get into a flame war here) who own these vehicles generally suffer from what Julie Walters called in 'Personal Services', BCSD. This is short for Big Car Small Dick.
The same acronym with a slight change in letters could also be applied to those who feel the need for large caliber weapons.

85. No, they don't make the world a more dangerous place, until. . .
They get stolen out of your house and wind up in my neighborhood, in the hands of drug dealers, shooting up my house and car. Luckily suchlike stolen guns haven't shot my family or neighbors, though that is probably just a matter of time.

I don't know where you live, nor what kind of guns you have, but if you have anything in the auto or semi auto variety, please get rid of it, because I and many more like me don't want to see it wind up in the hands of a drug dealer, in a borderline neighborhood, shooting up property and people. If you simply have long guns for hunting, that's fine. If you keep a gun for self defense, realize that the best gun to have for that(according to all of the experts including the NRA) is a twelve gauge shotgun, either double barreled or pump. Get rid of your handguns also, please. We don't need them here in the 'hood either(and they are the most common guns stolen).

Better yet for self defense, get yourself a big dog. Just as effective, and can't be turned against you(a common occurance with guns).

89. That'll be hard for them to do...
considering that I keep them in a real safe.

Dogs are NOT just as effective as guns. When was the last time a criminal poisoned a gun? When was the last time I had to take my gun for a walk? When was the last time an unattended gun ate the face off of a toddler? And I carry a handgun daily, it fits on my waistband a hell of a lot better than a shotgun.

Tell you what. If you really want me to get rid of my guns, I will. I'll sell them to people that live in your neighborhood. Which would you rather have? Me with guns, or me being "waffenfrei", and those guns being owned by your neighbors? If guns are such a threat to you, you'd be a hell of a lot safer with me having my guns, instead of somebody else.

I own all types of guns, ranging from antique civil-war (and earlier) black powder single shots to modern machineguns like the Mac-10 and MP-5. Once they came into my possession, they haven't hurt anybody. They're stored safely, and are practically impossible for a burglar to steal even if I'm not home.

If you want to stop violence, work towards addressing the root causes of that violence. Don't try and ineffectively treat the symptom by harassing me about my guns.

Was pulled up next to the guy, and congratulated him. Because he obviously has a large penis. After all, he drives a Hummer. So he must have a huge penis.

88. Dumbest Bumpersticker Ever Seen on an H2 ("fake" Hummer)
"America -- Built on brass and balls, not bullshit and ignorance."

I had a great, brief conversation with the H2 owner in the hardware store parking lot. I asked him if he knew that "brass" and "balls" were the same thing, and that the preferred version is "brass balls." He gave me the blank stare. I stated that I simply wanted to understand his bumper sticker -- as "brass" and "balls" have the same meaning in this context, was America built on "brass and brass" or "balls and balls"?

I left him with, "Ya know, 'America -- Built on brass balls, not bullshit' is a better, less verbose way to get your message across." Again, I got the blank stare (but I could tell I left him "thinking" about his bumper sticker).
