1. Yea! Go Dennis! All the candidates should get on this, too!
It's a very real thing and all the votes in the world won't help if they have it rigged! Which I have no doubt they would if they could.

2. So true - We need to push whatever bill Dennis files.
"They must fix the massive problems with computerized, electronic voting. There are signs that this technology is being set up for corruption by the biggest military contractors. Dennis Kucinich told me he's working on a bill that will governmentize-- the reverse of privatize-- all software used for electronic voting. And that's the way it should be. Every ballot should be a paper ballot, and it should be hand counted. There are too many ways to corrupt the process by hacking the software. (click here http://www.opednews.com/voting.htm for a library of articles on Problems with Voting and elections.)

Once there's an honest and clean election process, THEN, Americans will easily take back America. "

So true - We need to push whatever bill Dennis files.

:-)

8. Meanwhile, there's already a bill in committee that needs our support!
Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 08:07 PM by scarletwoman
Good for Dennis, I'm realy glad to know that he's writing some legislation in regard to this issue, and very much look forward to seeing what the bill will look like and how it fares.

Meantime, in case any of you don't know, there's another bill covering a somewhat different aspect of the black box voting machine issue that deserves attention and support.

This bill has already been presented to the House, and now sits idle in Committee, waiting for more sponsors and a push to bring it to the Floor.

The bill is titled, The 'Voter Confidence Act' - HR 2239 -- To amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to require a voter-verified permanent record or hardcopy under title III of such Act, and for other purposes.

Verified Voting has a page about it here: http://www.verifiedvoting.org/fair_elections.asp -- Please read the whole page, there are actions to be taken NOW!

The author of the bill, Rep. Rush Holt of New Jersey has a summary at his website here: http://holt.house.gov/issues2.cfm?id=5996

You can read the bill itself at Thomas: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query -- you can also click on the link for "Bill Summary and Status" at the top of the page and find out which Representatives have already co-sponsored this bill.

Once Kucinich's bill is written and presented, we can take the same actions -- I just want people to understand that there's action to be taken on this other very worthy bill right now!

22. Dennis again listens to the pulse of the nation!!
Honesty is his watchword. And action is his passion.

Sitting around twiddling his thumbs and waiting for the optimal political moment according to the polls is not his style, and I THANK GOD FOR THIS.

BTW, Scarletwoman, I contacted my R-Congressman about this bill and his aide said, "It is not a problem for New Mexico." And, so being of calm even temperament, I promptly yelled, "NO, IT'S A PROBLEM FOR THE NATION..." The Congressman got what is called in diplomatic terms "a stiff note" from me.GRRRRRRR sez I, being of calm even temperament...

15. OK, I'll agree with him on this, but not First Energy
Kucinich vs. Public Utilities in NE Ohio= mass bankrupcy for Ohio corporation and thousands of people (Trust me, the last think you want for economic stability is Kucinich vs. a public utility).

Kucinich vs. Diebold= Fine by me.

17. Actually I want the breakup and re-regulation of public utilities
And for that Kucinich is fine by me. "Natural" monopolies have no business being deregulated, and as proven by the grid meltdown, deregulation of same leads only to the sucking out of profits from the grid with no investment in infrastructure, higher prices for customers, and higher salaries for ponzi scheme CEOs.

25. Utilities
At the time I left Portland, there was a movement to set up a public utility to take over the scraps of the Enron-owned PGE, and you should have heard all the usual suspects squeal about how awful that would be.

Yet right in Oregon there are publicly-owned utility companies. I was served by one of them for seven years when I lived in a rural area. People in Portland used to marvel at how low my electric bills were, even though I had electric heat. Oh, yes, and we had one blackout in seven years.

So I move up to Portland, where the electric company is owned by an "efficient" private company. Blackouts at the oddest time--including on bright, sunny days when nobody should be expected to be using air conditioning or otherwise overloading the grid.

The situtation worsens when I move across town to a building that is on the West Hills grid. Five blackouts in one winter. I started carrying a flashlight in my purse so that I could grope my way upstairs if I came home to find the power off.

A little-known fact, which should have been trumpeted around the country during the California "energy crisis," is that California's publicaly owned utilities mysteriously avoided the blackouts that the Enron-owned utilties seemed to find inevitable.

16. Oh, this is very, very, VERY good news
If a potential nominee takes it upon him or herself to make this a campaign issue, or use the leverage of the race to highlight the danger of black box voting, or highlight legislation that will mandate a voter verifiable audit trail, it will make it very, very difficult for the Republicans to steal the next election.

Bush is tanking in the re-elect numbers, but he's still smirking, because he (or Rove) thinks the black box voting, redistricting, and recall mayhem will make the next election close enough to steal like the last one was.

I salute Dennis Kucinich for brining this issue to the forefront of our nation's discussion, and for putting words into action by working on real legislation that will take on this evil issue.

18. Wow.
Dennis is my guy, and I'm incredibly proud, relieved, excited, and energized by this. He's taken on the integrity of our entire political system at the source. Which is vintage Dennis; always looking for the problem instead of the symptom.

Okay, now that my pro-Dennis love-fest is done:

No matter which candidate you are supporting, I hope you will stand up and give Dennis strong, vocal support for this work he is doing for all of us. Without a clean election and a safe vote, none of our candidates will beat bush.

23. You go, Dennis!
I don't know how far this Bill will get as we all know there are powerful and monied interests who will oppose it, but kudos to Dennis Kucinich for at least TRYING to bring this topic to the forefront. It may not pass, it may not even get to the floor of the House, but MAYBE it will bring the issue into the public spotlight where it so DESPERATELY needs to be.

24. Seeing the bigger picture might be needed
I get this, Dennis could use some help which I am sure many would do. But some how this seems wrong, why should citizens let the trump card that controls all of these people (our vote)to be controlled and worked on by any part of what they do.

I would go as far as to state that we need a institution and Constitutional Amendment that protects our franchise from all that wish to undermine it.

31. hes the ripple of hope too
Someone that I will always remember as inspring me, win or lose Dennis will always have my respect and I will always know I was right for supporting him. That said I am gonna donate 25$ soon and buy stuff from the Kucinich store. We have to prevail really, I dont wanna play a game where my candiate cant win because he cant win, people told him he couldnt save the local steelmill and hospital yet he did. You should see him with his constiuents and he refers to these people as his family. Sigh if I had a representive like that, well I can get him as president if I work hard, it will be tough you betcha but this man is so lovable.
