CLARK PLEDGES BREAK $1,000,000!
http://www.draftwesleyclark.com/

Amazing. The acceleration in pledges over the last week has been insane! I've actually been concerned that the momentum for Dean might dissuade Clark from entering the race, but hopefully this surge in his own fundraising, before he's even a declared candidate, will offset that a bit.

1. What is there to stop people from pledging as much as they want
with fake contact info and no intention of ever ponying up the dough?

considering that the "source" of DTH's contention is the Draft Clark site?

5. Now you are calling us liars....
This is a fine example of the crud Clark
supporters have had to put up with lately.

Stupidity and character assassinations.

I hope real Democrats have more class than
some of the DU'ers here.

10. I'm sorry, is Clark running for President?
and, did he want to join the Repukes to run? Is it true? Can you refute it?

If DTH was able to report this information from a credible source, I could give it more weight.

Frankly, any idiot around here supporting a particular candidate can come up with all kinds of things to say, w/o having to beack up anything.

Once again, when Clark runs for president, let me know.

13. You can't even stay on topic.
He complained because you made the unsupported (and unsupportable) insinuation that the money pledged was pledged on bad faith. When called on it, you start your standard rant: he's not running yet, 'did he want to join the repukes'????????? (what did that have to do with FD's post?) and the rest of your typical hysterical attack mode posts. The only reason you didn't join the Seven Dwarves on my ignore list long ago is because you're just too damn funny to block.

Very nice, dear. But to answer your silly question seriously:

"DraftWesleyClark.com files quarterly statements with the Federal Election Commission and is held to the same transparent reporting standards as any other campaign organization (which is why we need to ask you the questions below)."

I imagine there would be serious consequences for false disclosure.

3. Wonk...
Today, on DU, I have quietly sifted through scads of crap
threads about candidates I don't like and have
said nothing out of respect for unity.

On the other hand, one pro Clark thread shows up and
you are there to bash it.

I won't answer your question directly because all I have
seen you do is post flame-bait.

I should qualify my statement.

Here is what I meant (and if you had reading comprehension, you could have inferred):

Whenever I see you on a Clark thread, all you do is post flame-bait.
___

Additionally, I do stick to Clark threads for the most part. That's because I try not to go bashing other people's candidate's on their threads. I try to stay pro-Clark, but also try to defend him and his supporters here against BS, which is all to common on DU.

12. Democrats will be lucky...
if Clark lends his internationally respected
credibility to the race.

People need to face the facts that Democrats have
lost a lot of elections because they have little cache
with the American electorate in regards to security
and national defense.

Along comes someone with exquisite credentials, a progressive
mindset, and the ability to finally restore some credibility
to the Democratic party in terms of what will be most
crucial in the next election and everyone here shits on
him and his supporters.

It is almost insufferable.

Kucinich has had 6 months to run and still polls similar
to Al Sharpton and Braun in NH, at the bottom. Clark beat
him in NH and nationally in recent Zogby polls. Yet, there
are scads of Kucinich threads acting like he is the next
coming of Jesus Christ! There is absolutely no chance he
can win the Presidency even though he may be a great progressive.
Yet, people bah-ah-ah-ah on like sheep about him and how
he would solve world hunger and world peace and so forth.
Look, I think it is great that he is running and bringing
progressive issues to the table. However, seeing as how
Clark is polling better than him, at least give Clark and his
supporters the same respect.

Name one Kucinich booster thread you have seen me on bashing him..
you can't. That's right, because I respect his candidacy and your
support of him. Some of you here need to show similar respect.

All your trumped up conspiracy stories about Clark add up to nothing.

Clark is brilliant, telegenic, and has cache with both domestic
policymakers as well as the international community. He also has a
very progressive mindset. If you took two seconds to actually read
about the guy, you would find that out. However, a lot of people
here argue against him for 2 reasons. 1, he has been part of the military and you just can't stand that due to your own bigotry and prejudice. 2, you are afraid he will suck the oxygen away from your guy. No one here has ever presented a cogent argument why Clark would
be a bad Democratic President ever on DU. No one. And I have read all the flames. It all amounts to 8th grade name calling and "whispering campaigns".

Clark may very well capture the imagination of the country, and in that event, he may be your next President, though admittedly he now stands as a long shot. If that happens, you will benefit, because he is a great man. Why the hell would both Clinton and Dean say it if it weren't true? Open your eyes and throw your bigotry away.

The DLC and centrist Democrats think pandering to the center is the key. Well, it hasn't work and I hate the idea.

Run a centrist again. And try not blame opposition parties when you lose or the country falls into even worse disarray in 4-8 years.

Nader is one of my heroes, he actual stands up for the proletariate.

20. Thanks!
Also...he can govern if he gets the White House address to his credit. Part of his reason for running is to make Congress accountable. He means it and he is well positioned with allies on both sides of the aisle, to do it. We continue to have a split legislature, that means foot dragging and law suits from the reps if a Dem wins. Clark can bridge that gap and actually move a progressive agenda forward. No one accuses a 4 star of being too liberal even when that 4 star has the same or more progressive policies than other Dems. Crazy yes; but true. You want to cut military waste, fraud and abuse? How about gays in the military or civil unions? Or better yet, how about unions and collective bargaining rights? The creeps from the right could scream all they want, but America would no longer be listening.

dems only want someone who they think is "sincere" about their positions. NH democratic voters choose Dean as their candidate and then by a two thirds margin say they think he will lose. (when asked if bush will be reelected, tho thirds say yes. That includes bush will win over Dean, their chosen one). How freakin ridiculous is that? The fate of our country is in the hands of people who will vote for Dean, even though they think he will lose against bush.

21. Remarkably, That's Fair Enough
I agree, $1 MM is nothing right now, although I do believe it's promising for a candidate who isn't even running yet.

But yes, first he has to run, which is indeed a big if. Then he will need to ignite a donor base of at LEAST $10 MM very quickly, or else he will sputter out.

So we'll see, I guess. I think he has the potential to be huge, but I also think Dean's success might keep him out of the race.

I WAS a pain to the Lieberman supporters. I've since backed off posting anything on him recently though.

But as for the anti-war Democrats, any of them I'd be proud to vote for in Nov. 2004. I think it's down to the grassroots to change the establishment Democrat culture...and I'm seeing that happen first hand here at DU and at Meetups.

So...once again, :toast: Clark supporters!

I wish we'd stop bashing each other and keep the pressure on Smirky McWhistleAss, but then again, this is a board for spirited debate among progressives, and I'm willing to listen and learn.

In the meantime, I hope we all stand tall and proud in support of our favorites, and cast that Dem Ballot no matter what, no matter who, come November 2004. :-)

36. Great News For Clark
I like the guy. I can't say I support him until I hear he's in the running, but, as Kef, and Volcano Jen, and a few others have said, it is more important that candidates outside the traditional corporate sponsorship track are showing signs of big support.

The only way we get our country back in full is to get rid of big moneyed interests setting our candidates, and thereby, our nation's policies. I hope the success of Dean, and Kucinich, and possibly Clark, sends a clear message to the corporate whores in politics that the people have finally recoginzed that they work for us, not the lobbyists. Good on Clark!! Keep it coming!!

This is really great, and I'm glad to see that he's got this kind of momentum--he's already raising as much money as some declared candidates.

But...um...where does the money go if he doesn't run? The DNC? But some of the draft Clark people are GOP?

And what's with people donating to something that might not even happen?

I'm saving my Clark money for when *he* asks for it.
