1. Anyone familiar with election laws?

I don't know them as well as I should but it seems to me that if funds can't be raised in a Buddhist temple then they certainly shouldn't be raised from a phone bank in India.

4. The Buddhist temple problem was because

religious and charitable organizations are tax-exempt as 501(c)(3) organizations. Candidates for office can only accept money from individuals and 501(c)(5) organizations (PACs). The orgnizations can lose their tax-eempt status by contributing or lobbying.

I think there are one or more newer designations under IRS rules, which are basically also PACs or PAC-like I think. I'm not familiar with them since it's been a while since I've delved into this whole thing.

501(c)(4)s are lobbying organizations. They can't give money OR endorse candidate or parties.

(c)(3)s can't contribute or endorse candidates or parties. They also can't lobby. They CAN "educate" on their issues. Most (c)(3)s have a lobbying arm, and some have PACs. But ALL the money has to be kept very separate, and very well accounted for.

they've got Indian programmers working on an automation system for soliciting donors.

Wouldn't make sense to call from India--too expensive.

IP...cheap and real easy. India has a big inbound and outbound pipe.
