No. 2 political director for RNC says he’s gay, won’t comment on policy

Daniel Gurley, the National Field Director and deputy political director for the Republican National Committee confirmed that he was gay during a telephone conversation Sunday, and declined to answer questions about the party’s platform, which many see as homophobic.

Gurley, who is the number two political official in the Republican National Committee, joins the RNC’s Chief Financial Officer Jay Banning as the second senior party official to discuss their sexuality while refusing to speak about policy decisions.

Both have been confronted by activist Mike Rogers, whose outing campaign has already targeted two gay congressmen who have voted against measures allowing gay couples to marry and adopt children.

Gurley said he would not speak about anti-gay marriage flyers the party admitted mailing in the south. As National Field Director, he would have a hand in political mailings.
