1. At the beginning, it sounded like...

Kerry was going to go into a long winded thank you to Leher, but he settled nicely. Kicked Bush's ass way the hell out there.

Let's just remember this is one down, two to go. Plus, *'s expectatiosn are lowered even more.

4. That seemed like a shrewd tactical move

Since the comon wisdom was that Kerry was 'too long winded', his starting off by using a good share of the time for the first question thanking people and still being able to cogently answer the question threw Bush off. He had to suddenly improvise and thank a bunch of people he didn't know before starting into the talking points Karl had laid out. He seemed rattled right away to me.

From then on, Kerry kept the tempo and control of the tone of the debate the rest of the night.

2. kerry had a great first 15 minutes or so

made dubya into a laughing stock who no one could take seriously for the rest of the night
