I absolutely despise the mainstream television media. After watching Kerry mop the floor with Bush tonight I was looking to see what kind of a response would come from the TV media. What I found was that most agreed that Kerry had a good showing but would likely only pick up minimal points in the polls (which we know are mostly bullcrap) and still has a long ways to go before he can be truly competitive. What drives me insane though is that they never take into account that:
1) Polls are not conducted via cell phone users (land line only) and there are upwards to around 190 million cell phones in America, many of which come from the youth, who are usually democratic voters, especially in this election
2) Newly registered voters are not contacted and recent studies have shown upwards to 250% increases from the year 2000 in democratic registration in key swing states compared to only 25% for Republicans. A single liberal activist group in Ohio claims to have registered over 300,000 new voters and you can bet money that they will overwhelmingly vote for Kerry
3) The most widely used poll, the Gallup, recently had a 12% GOP bias in its polling method. Essentially they polled 12% more Republicans than Democrats in their research and they claimed it to be a fairly accurate depiction of the race (before tonights debate and still only showing about a 7% lead for Bush, even with all of that bias)
4) Kerry leads in just about every issue with the exception of national/domestic security. Tonight he took the fight to Dubya and completely massacred his faulty intelligence and rhetoric. All data done tonight suggested that undecided voters were overwhelmingly leaning toward Kerry after his strong showing and Bush's lackluster performance.
5) Several respected polls, including Zogby, had the race at a dead-heat and that was before this debate! Zogby just wrote an article suggesting that this election is completely Kerry's to lose, meaning that he has the current advantage. Essentially this is just to illustrate the selectiveness in the polls that the TV media uses.
When November 2nd comes around I am going to laugh in the face of every TV media station when they have to declare John Kerry the new President of the United States. Only one more month left until we deflate these corporate windbags and show them that is democrats aren't screwing around when we claim that we wanted our country back!
