My Last 2 Thoughts On Thurs. Nite's Debate (1 Physical, 1 Political) !!!
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:49 PM by WillyT
1) Did this happen to anybody else here?

After the debate, and after watching an hour or so of post-debate spin, I take a shower, get dressed, and head down to my buddies pub to play doorman for the night. Now I had had dinner a couple of hours earlier, and had not yet imbibed in the spirits, but all of a sudden I get this really strange feeling in my gut. I'm feelin queasy, and a touch light-headed, and I'm startin to wonder if my dinner is coming back to haunt me. I sit down on my stool, and try to focus. A few minutes pass, and a friend of mine comes up and asks me what I'm smiling about. I ask him to tell me what he's talking about, and he tells me that as he walked up, I had the biggest\broadest smile on my face that he's ever seen.

And it hits me what's going on. Something on the inside of me had turned itself loose, had unclenched its grip on my innards. It was like taking a huge life-giving breath after being underwater a tad too long. I was starting to relax. Not in a "We've already won" sort of way, but in a "the despair is over" sort of way. And it wasn't some feeling from watching the polls, or watching the primaries... this sucker has been gnawing at my guts since Election 2000 and Bush v. Gore.

And with Kerry's performance Thursday night, along with Bunnypants showing the world just how small a man he truly is, my entire body practically swooned. And for the next couple of hours, this bar, where everybody is into sports and doesn't really like talking politics, would talk about nothing else. And everybody agreed that Kerry had taken it to Chimpy, and that the future, for the first time in a long time, was indeed lookin mighty bright.

And...

2) Got to watch an 'early production' of MM's FH 9\11 Saturday night. Only a couple of days after the debate. This is the third time I've seen it, but like many people, my memories of the first two times had started to fade a bit. And I got ta tell ya... this thing coming out this week in DVD\VHS and all that, could not be more perfectly timed. Watching this movie so soon after watching Shrub's debate performance is the ultimate spit-screen to our current political situation. And I think a lot of the 60 plus million people who watched the debate, are gonna go out and rent or buy this movie to take a/another look.

And I can't see how that's anything but a good thing for our side!!!

Thanks for lettin me share!

:hi::bounce::hi:

Oh... And BTW... Ya gotta love this!!!

2. I have to get up early
to go to work. One a.m.

I was so excited I didn't get to sleep until 11:30 and when my alarm went off I sprang out of bed like I had 8 hours of sleep!

I was on cloud 9 AND PUMPED UP all morning because Kerry exceeded my expectations-and they were HIGH!

It was a terrific feeling of optimism and patriotism and it lasted ALL day and into the early evening before my body said "OK! Get your ass to bed!!" and I crashed at 10 pm.

6. Shoot, I felt the SAME way. Could NOT stop smiling. Kept doubting it,
too. I wrote a column about it as quickly as I could, based on just the initial reaction I had, not really trusting it, only half-listening to a few talking heads just afterwards before I started writing. Couldn't sleep. All excited. Buzzing about it with my husband, well into the night. Woke up like a shot at about 5am, finished my piece and sent it off. I, too, had been in SUCH a dismal mood. I'd started to wonder how to cope when bush stole it AGAIN. Started worrying about a lot of things. Kept thinking - "they say Kerry's a good closer. They say Kerry's a good closer." But not yet believing it.

Now, I do. I smiled all the next day. And so did everybody else I ran into. LOTS of Dems and liberals where I live, and we ALL shared the same feeling. Listening to the pundits saying the same things I'd said, echoing the same feelings I felt, calling it for Kerry as I had, and knowing that many of those pundits really didn't want to have to go there...

I'd really started wondering if maybe I should just withdraw for awhile because I was taking this political stuff FAR too personally (and my husband agreed). But I changed my mind! I flip-flopped! I've felt MUCH more upbeat ever since.

7. I felt that way right after bush finished his convention speech - like
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 06:10 PM by jean
I could have floated on air, smiling uncontrollably. I think it was because the realization hit that it was the last one we'd have to put up with from him.

on edit: which makes me wonder now... will the RNC have him back as a past prez to give pep talk speeches at their '08 convention? He's a stain on the party.

8. Yep!
Actually, I felt as if I was put back into the universe I was in before the night of November 7, 2000. It was really weird and I had forgotten how nice it used to be not to have that constant sick feeling of dread in my stomach for the first time in almost 4 years. Incredible! I had no idea how horrible it's been until Thursday night and all day Friday when I felt that there was hope. Friday was probably the most physically beautiful day I'd ever experienced. I felt like I was on some kind of drug.

15. I felt that way Thursday night and Friday afternoon...
I was driving through town (Athens, GA) and as I approached the university @100 people were on either side of the street chanting "Kerry Edwards", waving anti-bush signs, etc...The car horns being honked in approval were deafening. This is a very liberal town, but after feeling beleaguered so much these past four years, the sweet music of those horns brought tears to my eyes. Willy T, we will prevail.

18. I Know... It Was The Delayed Reaction That Freaked Me Out !!!
I mean, I was happy as hell as it became obvious that Kerry was wiping the floor with Junior, but it took a couple of hours for the body and soul to catch up!

It was a really enjoyable weekend, ya know?
