they are inarticulate in the sense that some can speak quite well, but they don't care to take time forming an opinion or idea outside the carefully built archetypes they rely on such as: America is good and anything against America is bad. America is strong. Money is good and people who don't like money are bad. Government is bad. Business is good. If you attack me verbally, I want to attack. If you attack me physically, I want to attack. If I perceive I am not getting my fair due in life, I want to attack. I'm really into resolving my issues and conflicts with ATTACK.
So....for a wide variety of personalities who aren't particularly intelligent or thoughtful, Bush represents an easy slide into some belief systems they are familiar with. Fighting the war on terrorism is really hard, full of ambiguity, not easy to discern victories, etc. Too much of that fight is metaphorical and involving diplomacy, bringing people to trial, fixing security flaws, etc. People want a good old battlefield where people with guns and different colored uniforms or skin shoot at each other to resolve conflict.
Other easy buttons for these preprogrammed types are Religion and God. If someone in their religion says GOd said A or B or C is bad...they are gonna believe it. Same with something good.
Gay = bad Abortion = bad Islam = good (but really, it's bad<wink>) Sex = bad Guns = good War = bad (except if you're carrying the red/white/blue)
They keep things really simple for themselves and Bush keeps them simple too. As long as these people aren't willing to peer more deeply at how Bush is a front man for the group that is robbing them blind and taking away what is special about this country--balance of power, Constitution including Bill of Rights, liberty to speak, think, protest the powers--this guy will continue to win their support.
