Hostettler's funding tactic seen as illegal power grab

By Mike Leonard
Herald-Times Columnist
Judge Roy Moore's monument to obstinacy was removed from its prominent place in the Alabama Judicial Building Wednesday, despite Indiana Congressman John Hostettler's best efforts to assist the Alabama Chief Justice in his cause.

Earlier this month, the 8th District Congressman attempted to undercut federal marshals from potentially enforcing a federal court order to remove the massive, 5,280-pound Ten Commandments monument by removing funding for the marshals from a congressional spending bill.

The GOP must have its way, every time no matter what. Greedy Republicans nothing more!

2. Good, then this will be the end of them
this is the wrongest issue they have.

Trying to force their "truth" down everyone's throat will truly undo them.

I can't wait for the corrupt southern assholes to be castrated from power.

It's much like gun control isn't it? We must all choose our sacred cow wisely.

5. How do you mean?
Here we go.

How is gun control like forcing religious beliefs on someone? Furthermore what is "gun control"? Is that like "car speed control" that sets the speed limit at 65?

7. What is gun control
Depending on who you ask it's either being able to hit your target or not being allowed to own the gun needed to hit your target.

11. There is a good forum
for gun talk. Why don't you go there. You will be in good company.

Justice and Public Safety, next to last on the bottom.

8. hmmm...
I wonder if they would mind if I placed a 5,280-pound Bill Of Rights monument on the front lawn of all the churches in Alabama.

12. Actually, I say if this somehow gets reversed and the monument is back
We make sure that AL DU'ers are given the money to make/purchase religious monuments to EVERY deity and purpose...if he can do it, any person from Alabama can, and the court house can be filled up with our equal-under-the-law declarations of moral and legal birth.

13. Such an action
seems very well deserved. However why place a monument when you could place a spotlighted neon color billboard on the front of each church with a hole cut into for the doorway.

Perhaps they will learn better then to purposely divide society and turn more away from the faith.

14. You know what I found even more unbelieveable ...
This "poll" that says the majority of Americans think it should not have been moved. That is scary. Was wondering if these people would agree it's ok to rob a bank IF you're out of work and the kids need new shoes for school.

16. Perhaps some of the Xistian fundies
would care to explain how Alabama managed to arrive at it's apparently deeply religious state, if it has existed all these years BEFORE Judge Moore's monument was erected.

They seem to be claiming that removal of the rock will bring about the destruction of civilization as we know it, so my question is, how the hell did we manage to survive until now?

Asking such a question is unpatriotic adn helps the terrorists. Haven't you heard Our Glorious Attorny General, John Ashcroft?

17. Repubs care more about a rock than an economy!
Wow, something the repubs actually get fired up about. Making sure a stupid fucking ROCK gets to sit in some building.

When people keep losing their jobs .... losing their homes ....

Man, these people have their priorities in the wrong fucking place!

20. How can you have your priorities in the right place...
...when those priorities are set by conscienceless, greed-driven warmongers bent on the destruction of the just, equitable society envisioned by the founders of this country?
