Tweety worships Dean's "physicality"-anyone catch this?
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 08:43 AM by tjdee
I flip to MSNBC this morning to find Tweets slobbering over Dean and his 'pulled up shirt sleeves' and his 'physicality'. No joke. Going on and on about how Dean "looks" and about how Dean "walks around".

He said that men would find that appealing and so would women (I laugh and laugh over these talking head MEN telling me what I would like).

AND--(on edit, thanks jmm)
He said that Dean's being short is good, and that people will like that (????)--they don't need to see a tall guy, like Kerry, whose "height wouldn't help him".

He said he 'can't WAIT' until there's a debate between Bush and Dean, because Dean isn't some pencil thin wonk (I think that's what he said) and that he wasn't a "dork" like Gore was. He said that Dean would be able to push Bush into the "rich kid" thing where Bush loses it. (Thanks, Tweets, for already telling us who the nominee is.)

When Tweety likes a guy, he really does go into a man crush state. It's kind of scary.

1. Ain't it sweet? Tweety has a crush on Dean.
I saw it. He also said that people would prefer Dean because he is shorter and that "John Kerry's 6 feet and 8 inches won't help him."

He was all "people might like him being so short" and then slammed Kerry!

Maybe I'll put that in the original post...man, Tweety was out of control!

Matthews has this masculinity fetish he likes in politics.

Personally, I think we should talk Dean *down* prior to the debates and talk Junior *up*, so it looks to more people like Bush loses the debate.

As far as the debate, Bush ain't gonna get a pass this time. There is too much internet out there to spin the results favorable to the dim son. I have, for some time, think that Dean will tear Dumbya a new asshole.

8. I seriously doubt Bush will debate the Dem nominee next year
Rove knows that Bush would be killed in a debate. They will manufacture some excuse, like a war with Iran or North Korea, to get out of the debate.

Look to Rove to drown out the Dem nominee's message on the TV next year. Why do you think that they are aiming for $200-250 million? They will saturate the airwaves with pro-Bush propaganda.

The only Dem candidate who will have a chance against this Repuke strategy is Dean. His Grassroots campaign will undermine Rove's strategy. The only thing that would hurt Dean are fixed voting machines and corrupt election commissioners.

We're all itching for that debate, but I think you may be right. If we go into Iran or North Korea, it ain't gonna happen. The Dems all need to get their licks in now before Bushco rolls out its new fall product line.

This is just the kind of stuff that really interest me when Iam watching a program ,that suppose to be interesting and informative on politics ! How many guys actually sit around and talk about what another guy is wearing or if he's attactive or not .Give me a friggin break , when any of these shows start talking about this shallow B/S , I grab the remote as quick as I can !Actually since the idiot in office we now have stole the election , I can hardly stand to watch any of these shows !

They really did bust Fineman. I wonder if this was brought to his attention? It shows that he is a Bush supporter and not a Gore supporter. It also shows how the media beat up on Gore for trivial things and left Bush* alone. It was clear the media was pushing for a Bush* presidency.

Why can't journalists be impartial?

11. Actually Matthews is sort of on to something
It is interesting to ponder just what Deans appeal is. He really does at all times sound like a doctor. The doctor you always thought was kind of arrogant and a little condescending, but you trust him completly.

We are also in a time when people seem to be more comfortable with a politician that has a few rough edges. The fact that Dean is not really
a silky smooth speaker seems to help him now.

I will admit since Tweety also has had crushes at various times on Bush and John McCain and even John Kerry at one time (I don't know why they had a falling out?) but being 5'9 myself I don't think height is the end all in a presidential race. Women and men don't judge a president on how tall he or she is.

19. Tweety is setting a mindset for a Bush- Kerry showdown.
They know that Bush is going to get hit on his military strategies and his awol status. They have to make Kerry's stature in this area appear less than it is. They are making his commanding presence look to be "out of style" with the new trend of manliness that Bush is supposed to represent. The guy who acts like a straightshooter, but, will manage to straddle nearly every issue....yep...what a man.

but two things. First I would like a link to a transcript if possible since I would love to read this exchange for myself. Second, I wonder if people would be as derisive of the sexuality involved if the candidates or the comentator involved were women. I get more than a little tired of the Tweety is a homo crap. Again if this were a woman commentator making these ridiculous arguments or a male making them about women candidates I have my doubts we would be hearing derisive claptrap about Toronto or having something to tell us.

26. If it was a woman saying "I just love how she wears those skirts..."
I don't think, nor care, if Tweety is a homo (obviously he is married with children, but...)...

But I do think it is slightly inappropriate for him to go on and on about how a candidate looks--and IMO, he goes beyond the "he looks presidential" and actually gets into the tabloid mentality.

If I saw Greta Van Sustern go "Well, look at the way Hillary Clinton wears those candy colored suits, showing a bit of leg, I think the women really like that, and the men too", I'd say the same thing.

I don't know if MSNBC has transcripts of their morning, but I'll see if I can get it.

49. Yeah, I did miss your second point.
That's an interesting question...
for me, I think it'd be the same. Actually, it would border on sexual harrassment and would probably be frowned on instead of laughed at. Eh, maybe.

If Matthews had made similar comments about Loretta Sanchez, I'd probably think he was creepy. At the very least, not at all behavior befitting a 'journalist', which is what he claims to be.

As for the transcript, I can't find it. It was on between 7:15 and 8:30 this morning, which is tricky to find because usually Imus is on (he's on vacation, apparently). I'm not sure if it was a replay from last night (but not Hardball, Tweety was speaking with an anchor asking him about the recall, and whether Dean continued to surprise him, which is when he went a-swooning.)

But Tweety just seems to set himself up for it so well. Besides, I think I would be just as likely to make fun of a female pundit who I thought was obsessed with a candidate in a sexual way.

Goodness knows, we have plenty of fun with Ann Coulter. And Peggy Noonan has an "Herbal Essence" orgasm everytime Bush opens his mouth.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 10:31 AM by AP
there was a conservative rhetoric that was based on the notion that technology had made people weak and that we needed a new masculinity to strengthen America. TR exploited this feelings to promote imperialism. It's all very conservative. I'm not saying Dean is conservatively exploiting masculinity (and that Tweety is picking up on it). I'm saying that Tweety is trying to create this mood that it's all about masculitny because he thinks that's a field upon which Bush can win.

It's not possible that he means these things. He's an actor, all of his statements should be taken as lines.

When he supposedly opposed the war, it wasn't what he really thought, and same for when he supposedly changed his position.

The really disgusting thing is the sincerity with which he plays his part. He really gets into it, pained facial expressions, emotion in his voice. It's totally cynical. :puke:

If anyone thinks he and other corporate whores really want Dean to beat Bush, there's a bridge being sold somewhere.

What they really want is Dean to beat Kerry. That keeps alot of the damaging case against Bush and his Saudi ties to Bin Laden from getting full exposure during the general election. Beers, Hart and Gen. Perry are working on Kerry's team, remember?

You got that right, BLM. It's misguided to dismiss someone like Matthews as "stupid." He's not stupid at all. He's a talented entertainer who gets paid boatloads of money because, love him or hate him, he's compelling. He's interesting to watch. You can't be stupid and keep an audience engaged as long as he has. Same thing with Limbaugh, O'Really, Coulter, et al. They may have a lot of sick and twisted ideas about life, but these people are wicked smart, and everything they do is precisely calculated and calibrated to their audience.

BTW, I don't know or care whether Matthews has homosexual cravings or not. But I do know that a gay coworker of mine thinks Dean is hunky, but obviously dead butch. All of the women I work with who know who Dean is think he's a dish. Does any of this matter in selecting the leader of the free world? Hey, couldn't hurt!

46. Matthews and Fawning sometimes makes me wonder
what went on in the intervening years between his being a top aide to Tip O'Niell and today. He does fawn (almost drooling) over different male candidates - and there does seem to be a masculine bit what draws the fawn...

But his earlier boss - doesn't fit that profile. Tip was amazing. But Tip (at least in his later years - haven't seen pics of young Tip) wasn't a "man's man" so to speak - in terms of exuding a macho aura. He was a politician's politician. He was a master strategist. He was the consumate INSIDE player. All of the things that Matthews seems (vocally at least) to find less 'attractive' in candidates (attractive not in a physical sense but in the fawning... oh He's the candidate.... sort of way).

I don't get it.

53. Bush's socks-in-his- crotch was supposed to win all womens' votes
What's up with these males that they think they can speak for us
women? My husband and my son are both tall, but I don't measure a presidential candidate by his stature. Tweety nor Karl Rove, etc. can
speak for no one.

58. I see what you mean...
"We’re proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who’s physical, who’s not a complicated guy like Clinton or even like Dukakis or Mondale, all those guys, McGovern. They want a guy who’s president. Women like a guy who’s president. Check it out. The women like this war."

70. "American's like a guy w/ swagger"? "Not complicated like Clinton"?
What American's is he talking about? American Freepers.

How does Tweezer explain why a "complicated" Clinton was elected twice?

76. Clinton had a swagger
and I think the right-wing hated it.

Clinton carried himself like an adult. Bush comes off as a teenager. Maybe he started drinking at say age 17 and his personality stopped developing further.

73. Right now on MSNBC...
there's a piece on Kerry. It started out showing him surfing, playing hockey, riding his motorcycle and flying his own plane. The point was made that Kerry's team wants him to be seen as a dare devil and risk take. In a word - macho.

Years ago, shortly after I moved to Colorado, a dear friend of mine explained about our governor's races. She asserted that folks out here like to elect men who "look gubnatorial". I don't know about our current governor. But there may be something in all this that can't be denied.

74. MSNBC's spin...Kerry's TEAM wants him to appear macho -
and who cares that he has been doing all these sports since he was a schoolboy. Nevermind that he flew trick planes in college. Now, it's just an "image" for the press to report, unlike the manly president who landed on an aircraft carrier with a bulge in his pants.

Sheesh.

65. When * was shown at the "ranch" this summer
Tweety was rhapsodizing over the fact that he was "wearing short sleeves." Seemed to turn him on. He hasn't said much about the big-ass presidential seal belt buckles and stitched-on "George W. Bush, President" name tags, though.

71. It wouldn't be the first time someone with wife & children was "Bi-" and
his behavior shows he has some problem that he focuses on "Masculinity and Apparal so much."

He uses "manliness" so much that it seems to be his only judgement for anyone seeking political office. That they arephysical specimens of what Tweety's view of masculinity is......they have "balls" he might as well say.

Something offbase there.

I remember him having the hots for Katherine Harris (as a milf, I guess?).

And don't get him started with a guest on with similar predilections, you'll need a drool mop.
