BBV - VA-State notified of flaw in new voting machines
RICHMOND — New touch-screen computers designed to improve voting security are being tested in Virginia this year, but manufacturers already have notified state leaders of a flaw that causes the machines to shut down unexpectedly.

An official for Ohio-based Diebold Election Systems said the machines will be fixed before Election Day. After receiving those reassurances, the State Board of Elections voted Thursday to proceed with the tests.

The newer models being tested in Colonial Heights have added security features that are not affected by the malfunction, Vopalensky said. He said the computers sometimes shut down after a poll worker prints a vote tally. The machines did not shut down while being used by voters, he added.

New flaw or old flaw?
If new, I wonder how many other states will be notified?
Will this be the start of the last mionute software modifications?

3. The Machines Are....
Diebold AccuVote TSx and the problem is something that happened down in San Diego where some machines shut down when they were directed to print reports. They claim that they are writing a patch and the patch will go through federal ITA certification before it is installed. I find that hard to believe.

Note that these are the same machines that were kicked out of California. It is hard to believe that anyone would buy the damn things. Not to mention, they are "testing" voting systems in real life.

4. Well if my town goes Repub, we'll know the fix is in.
Arlington, despite being a haven for politicos in DC, is overwhelmingly Democratic. I've used the newfangled voting machines twice now; so far so good.
