This is the time to start marching again.
You know, when I think back about all those people here and abroad who took to the streets in an attempt avoid the atrocities that are occuring now in Iraq, I think of thosse people (like me) who are today going home to a nice house or flat to watch tv, put on some music etc ....while this hell on earth is taking place. I don't want to do that. What I really feel like doing is going out on the street and taking signs, and shouting out that we were were right. Let's all do that in the next couple of days. Let us organize again.

1. take on the MEDIA first

make their relentless whoring issue #1

otherwise, they will NEVER do what must be done...

and that is: QUESTION W (and his insanely corrupt cabal)

i say we don't march on washington, we march on CNN, FOX, etc. and MAKE them the story.

15. No, taking on the media is not enough,
and it's too vague - the process is important. I'm ready to march, preach , nail up flyers, whatever - we need grass-roots action, baby.

19. grass-roots action against the MEDIA
to turn the same spotlight on * that they did on clinton.

if they continue to ignore/marginlize the TRUTH about anti-* sentiment, people won't know it's happening

21. It's worth a try, but...
... I don't think it will work - I'm not quite sure what you mean by taking on the media, but I think it's clear that the networks (especially the cable ones) are completely allied with Bush. they frame everything the democrats do as pure political scammery while rich-boy Bush and his cronies loot the government - that kind of shit is hands-off. I think the democrats are going to have to find a reliable method of coming in under the standard media radar - and that's going to require the internet and some action on the street, too.

Of course I sit around and deconstruct Fox and Msnbc all the time, but that's not getting anything done. The process is important - Democrats have to get involved again. And , let me add, they can't be pushed aside by investor-class-lackeys by the DLC. the key to the Dems success is getting back in touch with workers, and the huge mass of unemployed we have out there.

2. Go ahead but...
...all you will do is play right into Bush's hands. The American people will plum forget that it was all Bush's fault that our soldiers are dying in Iraq right now. It will become them damn peacenics fault instead of Bush's. The media will make sure of that. When the soldiers get tired of being maimed and killed protecting Halliburton and the rest of Bush's corporate friends in Iraq they will put a stop to this faster than all of the marches in the world ever could. Promise.

3. How will the soldiers do that? Go on strike?

That's exactly why the media also need to be within our sights. Their complicity in this must be exposed.

When the soldiers get tired of being maimed and killed protecting Halliburton and the rest of Bush's corporate friends in Iraq they will put a stop to this faster than all of the marches in the world ever could. Promise.
We're supposed to wait until that happens? And how would they to it--go on strike?

When the soldiers get tired of being maimed and killed protecting Halliburton and the rest of Bush's corporate friends in Iraq they will put a stop to this faster than all of the marches in the world ever could. Promise.

Or get kicked out of the military.

6. That will be up to them. The ball is in their court now. Not ours
Time for them to stand up and be counted. We can only do so much. If I could snap my fingers and that would bring them all back home right now, I would.

13. I'm sure your attitude...
...would be welcome in the world of the RWingers. Beyond that...I think you're just plain wrong. Marches and protests are a constant reminder of unjust wars and unnecessary death, destruction and poverty.

- You seem to be saying that we should base our political strategies on how the RWing media will react. This type of thinking has put the Democratic party in the minority and divided us into camps.

- There's no disputing that marches and protests helped put an end to the Vietnam police action. And of course the corporate media and RWingers won't like it. That goes without saying.

- But it's dangerous thinking to suggest that we should sit back and wait for soldiers to rebel. When democracy, free press and governmen fail...only the people can make it right again.

14. You are missing some very important points in your post
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 08:16 PM by NNN0LHI
This is not 1969. There were tens of thousands of dead Americans soldiers already brought home from Vietnam by then. This country had not been attacked on the scale of a 9/11 since Pearl Harbor. The vets from Vietnam came back and joined the peace movement in large numbers. And these guys who knew what the deal was in Vietnam were not afraid to tell the truth. And most important there was a draft then. These are not minimal differences. Americans have not had their belly full of death and destruction yet. Before they get their fill, you might as well be whistling dixie. Don't kill the messenger.

20. I couldn't agree with you more.
I think the saying is that when your enemy is drowning, you don't throw him a life preserver. It would be completely different if people hadn't vigorously protested prior to the invasion. However, to put those same people out there now will just shift the blame from this administration.

There needs to be a real shift in the thinking of the American people; I'm not prepared to interfere with their being able to make that shift.

7. I agree. There should be mass marches everywhere and general strikes
We should shut this country down until Bush and his cronies are in JAIL.

Have we no shame?

18. we receieved some good coverage for the war protests
that happened earlier this year. This was becasue there was so many people protesting.

They also protested in Portland when Bush showed up to campaign and that did receieve some attention. I think if we don't protest and do other things, everyone thinks that we all approve of what he is doing.

The secret is to get LOTS of people. The war protest were great because they even showed grandmothers and "regular" people.
