Ok, my high school sent me this letter.


"President Bush signed the 'No child left behind act of 2001.' This act grants the Armed Forces access to all students' home address and telephone numbers. If you chose to opt out of providing this info. to them please sign and return to the school."


What do you think. I assume this is just a republican trick to try and recruit for the military in a poor black and hispanic community? I'm obviously going to 'opt out of providing info'.

Doesn't the military go to every school? Or is this just for home info? I'd def. opt out. Yes, it sounds like you already know what it is.

5. Not every school has allowed them access to their students/

student information. I believe that our local high school has been resisting this. The threat from the federal government is to cut off funding if they don't comply.

2. Oh, I see...what he meant was that no child would be

left behind by the military. What does the military have to do with improving the schools?

I didn't know that was included in the 'No child left behind act of 2001'.

I suspect it's targeted to all high school boys nearing the age of mandatory registration though, and not just to the "poor black and hispanic community"

4. I don't remember the details

but this was part of NCLB. The high schools have to turn in contact info on students to military recruiting. Apparently students have and option to opt out, in the schools that alert them anyway.
