shamelessly glommed from Eschaton (atrios.blogspot.com):

From the Coalition Provisional Authority home page

and the Whiskey Bar:

Note the highly appropriate typo.
province n. 1. A territory governed as an administrative or political unit of a country or empire. 2. A division of territory under the jurisdiction of an archbishop. 3. Area of a country situated away from the capital or population center ... 7. Any of various lands outside Italy conquered by the Romans and administered by them as self-contained units.

I wonder how long it's been there. And how long will it stay there?

Update August 30 12:36 PM ET: Maybe they've given Iraq to Canada, and forgotten to tell us?

1. Well, at least they aren't lying. This empire crap is unamerican.
America's founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves. :(

9. Frightning thoughts
Wew the founding fathers utterly sincere in their beliefs, or did they conjure up the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and freedoms only to justify themselves? Look at what they wrote and compare it to slavery for example. (the civil war does prove that plenty knew slavery was an abomination and should have been ended, but how many of them wanted equal access and rights for all? Many wanted to ship blacks back to Africa! :eyes: After all, we still had vile forms of segregation until the 1960s, and even now things are still a partial mess - again, imposed by the white man's corporate system that pampers the rich and urinates on the poor. Why should rich schools get more money when the schools that NEED the money so their students can improve are left to rot?!)

2. Oh GOD!
That's not a typo, it's the wrong word all together. Way worse than a typo.

I didn't catch it until I finally read your word "provisional."

Wow.

6. Yes. It's a malapropism, not a typo.

In employing the word 'provincial' they overtly betray the obvious 'empire' ambition and intention. While one mght call it a Freudian Slip, it seems inarguable to me.

11. Aw shucks, now they'll prolly fix it.
Maybe after Bremer returns from vacation!

Then again, they'll likely screw up fixing it, so, its all good.
