Q: So do we have enough troops in the military right now...

... to finish the job in Iraq? Is the military being stretched too thin, or are people exaggerating a little? How realistic is the possibility of a draft?

1. Not enough FULL time Army

Probably Air Force and Navy OK.

Do we have enough military to kill them all? Yeah, probably.

...but maybe we'll start a "war on stupid resource-wasting wars against intangibles and inanimate objects." That'll fix it.

4. Far too many for an alleged "peace loving" nation.

All of our high-tech junk is useless for fighting guerillas. Our soldiers have transformed Iraq into a killing ground where westerners dare not venture out of their hotels and the military is facing mutinies for forcing the troops out of their "safe" zones.

Meanwhile most of the people of the world go about their business peacefully without the need for a huge military.

Does anyone ever wonder why we need so much "defense" since we like to think of ourselves as such a "peace loving" nation?

5. Depends on what you want to do with them.

Occupy a hostile country, Iraq -- no.

Start new wars -- no.

"Graceful" exit from Iraq -- yes.

Do lots of other stuff -- yes.

The neo-cons have big plans -- and if they win, they won't back off of these plans -- why should they?

So with Bush, you get draft.

Probably not with Kerry, because I think that the timing is too short for the neo-cons to start any more wars before they have to leave government. And I imagine that the military would "drag their feet"* on any such plans. -- A lot of them didn't want this war -- much less another (stupid) one.

*: Better, perhaps, to use "mill around smartly".

with or without mercenaries, ahem, I mean private contractors ... ah, privatization?

Our grunt troops make nothing financially, compared to them! Ah, but taxpayers are more worried about poor people poor people, (read: children) getting food, ah .. wine and crack!
