Dade County
I noticed that Broward and Palm Beach counties to the north were more Democratic than Dade. What makes Dade County less Democratic? Is it the Cuban population?

It also looks like the seats are designed weird down here. I guess that the Republicans did it to create only a few Dem seats. Indeed I am not sure whether I am in the 17th or the 20th districts. But at least I have a Democratic Congressman--either Kendrall Meek or Peter Deutsch.

1. Whoever's running in 2004..
needs to have his/her team go door-to-door in our strong (Gore 55%+) precincts and have every single eligible person registered to vote.

Then, about a week or two before the election, our teams need to go door-to-door once again, carpeting those areas, getting folks to vote absentee.

Turnout --> victory

(and, more on topic, those ARE some freaky-lookin' districts!)

4. Republicans have Florida gerrymandered beyond belief
What's funny is this map is actually an improvement. Take a look at Corrine Brown's old district:

Also it appears there are some districts on the west coast a couple hundred miles long and about 5 miles wide.

12. Ours aren't quite THIS bad.
I think it's the western "straight line" mentality out here.

Not that we're not gerrymandered - we are. But that's the most convoluted mess I've ever seen.

10. That seat looked like ovaries
or maybe a uterus. Or is that too X-rated for DU?

2. You should at least learn where you live.. Its Miami-Dade county
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 03:13 PM by Mika
They renamed it about a decade ago.

For some strange reason, they wanted to include the name of the poorest city in the USA (thanks to the "exile" run government there) in the county name.

also I believe Palm Beach has a large Jewish population.

oh and Carlos, check out this if you want to see who your congressman is: http://yahoo.capwiz.com/y/dbq/officials/ Enter your zip code and then your full address if that's not enough (unless you know your 4 digit extension)

http://www.house.gov/writerep/ thinks I'm in PA-7, when I'm in PA-6 (however, my next-door neighbor is in PA-7)...but that site puts me in PA-6.

EDIT: realized that that site was better than writerep and zapped complaint

6. Ok I just did that
Edited on Sat Aug-30-03 04:34 PM by jiacinto
It says I am in either the 17th, 20th, or the 21st.

I further added the rest of my zipcode and it says I am in the 17th.

13. I have no sympathy for Dade County
I got a parking ticket there once, so that's it. Don't even try to get me to say anything good about Dade County.
