Question for the DUers who are FOR the recall: (this is not a flame)
I've noticed some DUers having tagline sigs saying "Recall: YES" and then the name of a candidate that nobody's ever heard of before.

Given who's got the most votes should a recall take place (currently a steroid-eating Republican who's got no clue I gather), are you sure you still WANT a recall?

1. Flame away
I dont think the Recall is a bad idea. Davis doesnt seem to be able to fix the problems of that state, and Arnold may not be a politician but thats what they need. Someone who isnt corrupt like a politician. If Arnold doesnt know how to do something he will just hire someone who does.

Isnt he married to a Kennedy?

4. I dont think Arnold is conservative enough
to be considered a repuke. I gotta wonder why he is running on the R ticket instead of the I.

6. Because he is a long-time repuke!
As NSMA says below, he will HIRE everything done for him, like numbnuts. Have you heard any concrete solutions from Ah-nold? I don't think so.

5. Great response!
I'm not familiar with the situation, and getting a Democrat's view on being for the situation would be the one I'd most likely take at face value.

Dunno. Other actors have ventured into politics. Jesse Ventura was one. Governor of MN, the not-so-liberal-anymore state I live in. He was entertaining and he loved to push the envelope (and I agreed with his religion comment in Playboy, unlike everyone else), but his policies helped get our state into a real financial shithole. His moonlighting was extremely suspect as well. In the end, Jesse was for Jesse and NOT the state of MN (Heaven forbid, I actually agree with the KQRS repuke morning show on something...). He can go stick a tamping iron up himself for all I care.

Then there's Ronald Reagan, a man who for all intents and purposes was evil when he wasn't braindead. He took no positive interest in AIDS - you know, that gay disease that nobody else would get :eyes: - and gave us the multi-trillion dollar deficit that Bush I did nothing about. I'm forgetting the S&L scandal and the Iran Contra thing which deserved impeachment for him and jail time for all his buddied who are now on the FOX "news" channel. Clinton, bad points aside, finally got the budget turned around and sorted out. Then came Bush II who is happily nailing as many nails as he can find into the coffin known as "the United States of America".

I'd vote for you if I actually could.

8. Precisely. Oops, I should have mentioned!

I'm all for Bustamonte, actually! Many for the recall have spouted names I've never heard of before. But the people who I saw this probably have me on ignore because I'm not enough of a "moderate democrat" for their liking. :-( :eyes: Hey, I'm way-left in my beliefs and I'm usually proud of that! At least I listened to them and haven't put them on ignore...

No, my intent was indeed to point out why actors, ANY actors, make awful choices as politicians. No eye-rolling is necessary. :D I got the impression 1a2b3c wanted Schwarzzie as governor. (The Schwarz would be better off as an I than a R as another R gives more power to the dregs of society* currently "running" this country.)

I also should have mentioned that I agree it was the indolence of Davis which justifies the recall in some moral aspect. (though Davis did win the election by a larger margin than Bush* as I recall, so this recall shouldn't even happen, even if Davis doesn't care.)

9. I'm ambivalent....
On the one hand, the entire recall effort is an example of repiglican inability to abide by the results of the democratic process, an acute case of sour grapes. In the end, most of the uber conservatives who were so in favor of the recall bailed because even they knew that they couldn't challenge a third-rate actor. The entire effort is a sham and a travesty of democracy, used fraudulently by rich repig captains of industry with deep enough pockets to buy the necessary signatures.

On the other hand, Gray Davis is a lousy governor-- not criminal, venal, or incompetant, necessarily, as the recall provision was meant to address-- but his unpopularity goes way beyond the energy deregulation issues he inherited from Wilson and the looting of the state treasury by the energy traders that resulted during his watch. I won't mourn his leaving office for one minute, per se, but I certainly don't want to see him replaced by either Ahnold or Bustamante.

I suspect I'll vote "no" on the recall, just because it's fundamentally an abuse of the political system, but "yes" for Peter Camejo, who would be a far better governor of California, IMO.

12. I think you misunderstand...
Some people, including myself, are saying "NO recall - YES to Bustamante." That means that we will vote against the recall, and also for Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, so that he can take office in the event that more than 50% of the voters choose to recall Davis. Bustamante would only need to get more votes than any other single candidate, though not necessarily a majority.

I argue strongly for support for No Recall - Yes for Bustamante. Bustamante would make an excellent and progressive governor. Our task is still of course to fight hard against the right-wing recall attempt.
