Nationalize the bastards!
From a recent post by Eloriel:

His daddy's friends are nearly done with us anyway, having bled the Treasury dry and put us in debt for as long as anyone can see into the future to steal even more from us.

I'm trying to imagine what fun would it be to be Prez of a bankrupt nation, after all -- let the Dems clean it up, build up the Treasury again so maybe Jebbie can have another go at bankrupting us -- unless Bush is determined to try for that dictatorship he's so yearned for.

Eloriel

Seems to me, if a people's revolution can indeed be brought to pass (that's THE big if), then it ought to be possible to "just" go in and nationalize the crime syndicates (i.e., many corporations and quite a few corrupt, very, very rich individuals) - clean them up and "take" their assets on behalf of the people! A classic rob from the rich and give to the poor (i.e., to the U.S. treasury, and ultimately, the people). Step out of the box, DUers. IT CAN BE DONE! It WILL be done. In my view, the only question is WHEN: how BAD will things have to get before enough people shout "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

<6> Balance Between Workers and Corporations
American workers are working longer and harder for less pay than 20 years ago. What's needed is a resurgence of organized labor, and a Kucinich administration will tenaciously defend the rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively. Since the purchasing power of the minimum wage has dropped 21% in two decades, it's time for living wages, not minimum wages. And it's time to reverse tax cuts that benefit the already well-to-do, and retain an estate tax. Investing $500 billion to rebuild schools, roads, bridges, ports, and sewage, water and environmental systems will do more to stimulate our economy than tax breaks for the wealthy. MORE

Kucinich's suggestion of a large public investment in infrastructure implies, if not nationalization, at least the maintainance of the status quo of public ownership of existing publicly-owned entities. And his tax plan and support of labor is certainly a plus.

Personally, I want to use organized-crime statutes (such as RICO in NY State) to try and convict people like Ken Lay, Bernie Ebbers, et. al., take BACK the money they stole, and use it for the public good.

7. Kucinich is not even close to a nationalizer
he's a good old fashioned Midwest American Liberal--not a fan of centralized government control of the economy, which incidentally is employed far more often by right wing dicatorships than even socialist states.

The greens want to nationalize everything from the fortune 500 to ("voluntarily") every mom and pop business in the USA.

Simply profiteering from Viacom, Merk, and Walmart is not quite good enough for Fidelity Ralph. With your support he just may get to run them too.

Even if Ralph doesn't quite manage to crack the magic 2 percent barierer, many others will humbly thank you for your support. Chimpy will praise the "fabulous" job you're doing. Ashcroft will immortalize you in a song even more rousing than "Where Eagles Fly." And Rummy, of course, will personally write your name on a 2000 lb. bunker buster.

Yeah, I know. We must have links documenting the Greens' economic agenda and Sir Ralph, Buster of Union's hypocricy. To wit I am delighted to comply Democratic Conversion of Big Business: "Mandatory break-up and conversion to democratic worker, consumer, and/or public ownership on a human scale of the largest 500 US industrial and commercial corporations that account for about 10% of employees, 50% of profits, 70% of sales, and 90% of manufacturing assets.
Democratic Conversion of Small and Medium Business: Financial and technical incentives and assistance for voluntary conversion of the 22.5 million small and medium non-farm businesses in the US to worker or consumer cooperatives or democratic public enterprises. Mandate that workers and the community have the first option to buy on preferential terms in cases of plant closures, the sale or merger of significant assets, or the revocation of corporate charters.">

8. Americans aren't Communists
And frankly the vast majority of Americans will never support that extremist agenda you advocate.

9. kick!
Man., I'd have thought the greens would have posted their platform on the other threads they're getting all worked up on.

Anyway, here it is in this thread--The wonderful plan to let Ralph Nader's political appointees administer the nation's economy, from DuPont to the hot dog place down the street.

10. That's not right
The Green Party doesn't advocate doing any such thing. We want to break up and localize municipalities and corporations, not run them. Its in the Green Party platform. It is a HUGE part of the platform in the Cali Green Party, putting municipalities under local control and breaking up corporations into small, bite-size pieces. How did he get the nomination in 2000 again?

11. Who administers the breaking up, Pardner?
would it be the (groan) the Nader administration, in which the power positions would be filled by political appointees.

That's nationaliztion, my friend, no matter how you spin it.
