Now I am very angry--Freepers going after Judith Steinberg Dean
Freepers can't even entertain the idea that a woman has any worth when she doesn't look like a tart on FAUX News.

2. Perhaps they would like Judy to get lip injections,
a facelift, and tons of make-up. It shows just how shallow they are. She is a darling woman with one hell of a lot of credentials, but they don't acknowledge that.

3. I am sure her patients are worried about it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A man goes to the doctor and says, "Doc, I would like to live very long. What should I do?"

"I think that is a wise decision," the doctor replies. "Let's see, do you smoke?"

"Oh.. Half a pack a day."

"Starting NOW, no more smoking." The man agrees.

The doctor then asks, "Do you drink?"

"Oh, well Doc, not much, just a bit of wine with my meals, and a beer or two every once in a while."

"Starting now, you drink only water. No exceptions."

The man is a bit upset, but also agrees.

The doctor asks, "How do you eat?"

"Oh, well, you know, Doc, normal stuff."

"Starting now you are going on a very strict diet. You are going to eat only raw vegetables, with no dressing, and non-fat cottage cheese."

The man is now really worried. "Doc, is all this really necessary?"

"Do you want to live long?"

"Yes."

"Well then, it's absolutely necessary. And don't even think of breaking the diet." The man is quite restless, but the doctor continues, "Do you have sex?"

"Yeah, once a week or so..., only with my wife!" he adds hurriedly.

"As soon as you get out of here you are going to buy twin beds. No more sex for you. None."

The man is appalled. "Doc... Are you sure I'm going to live longer this way?"

"I have no idea, but whatever you live, I assure you is going to seem like an eternity!"

5. Not all of the comments are bad.
Like this one: I think a lot of it has to do with a lack of cosmetics. We are so used to seeing full cosmetics (surgical and other) on women in the limelight.

This lady just seems to be content with helping other people and being real. I don't think people should put her down for that."

A lot more women in this country look like Judy Dean than Ann Coulter. I think she's a real asset.

38. I've seen some nasty posts on DU...
...such as those pointing out the fact that Laura Bush caused a traffic fatality as a teenager -- an unintentional tragedy that says nothing about her or her husband. Ugliness raises its head on both sides of the aisle even if it is found in greater abundance on the right.

On another subject, does anyone have a problem with Dean's wife taking on his name for the presidential race? Hillary did this, too, didn't she? I would have much preferred that she campaign with the same name she's been using during her married life. Taking on his name at this point suggests a compromise of the principle that made her keep her "maiden" name after being married simply out of political expediency.

Finally, what a remarkable woman. Oy! She may be the most impressive First Lady in US history if Dean is elected.

12. or these
"I think that some conservatives need to take another look at this guy."

"Dean was an internist, until about the time he ran for Lt. Governor. My own internist in Pittsburgh worked for Dean in Vermont, and has nothing but praise for him!"

"I looked at his web site. He was baptized Catholic, later joined the Congregational Church (he's a Mayflower descendent), and still celebrates Judaism in his family since his wife and kids (by Jewish tradition) are Jewish. So it's quite an American mix."

13. That's because that comment was, uh, MINE...
There were a few others, but not many. What kind of moron mentality would go after the woman like that? It has nothing to do with anything; they're just looking for anything, ANYTHING to trash both her and her husband. It has nothing to do with anything meaningful at all.

Frankly, I think they're feeling intimidated. She has loads of credentials and respect.

I did find it interesting that one freeper relayed how her own doctor had worked under Dean at one point. She seems actually impressed. (That comment was not mine.)

24. What kind of people? DUers do it all the time
DUers constantly comment on the appearance of female Republicans and the Bush family.

Pisses me off too. As a feminist, I had hoped we were beyond that crap, but any time a poster brings it up here on DU, there is always some excuse...like they do it too.

With the exception of monsters like Bill Frist, doctors are probably one of the most respected professions, and Americans will react very negatively to people bashing her.

6. Yeah, it's dumb.
She's not very photogenic when she's posing for a photo, but she takes much better pictures when she doesn't realize one's being taken. She's just very shy. The only reason she used Steinberg professionally is so when someone called out for "Dr. Dean" they'd know who should answer. She's always used Dean in her personal and private life, too.

34. Let's get over our machismo.
There's no good reason for a woman to take a man's name upon marriage. It's sexist, period. Let's get over our absurd sexual prejudices.

That young girls buy into the lie that we need makeup to be
pretty . I haven't worn Makeup since I was 21 that's 13 years
free from Makeup . I used to spend so much time Dolling myself
up w/ makeup and a curling iron ...What a waste .

My husband loves me w/o makeup

10. Amen, sister -
we do our daughters no favors by teaching them to obsess over their looks. I used to wake up at 4:00 a.m. so I could make up and fix my hair before my husband woke up at 5:00 a.m. Not any more - now I find that a ponytail and a pair of sunglasses will do just fine, thank you!

30. The lie has a basis in capitalism.
The Big Lie about makeup has been purchased by American (and many other) women with cold hard cash. That's all it's really based on. The more cosmetic crap the women can be programmed to buy means a LOT of profit for coporate America.

Women don't need the stuff. If a man (or other woman) can't accept you as you really are, they aren't worth bothering with. My daughter once said corporate America won't be happy until American women spend *every last penny* they earn on cosmetics, perfumes, etc. Forget the necessities--that's what "their" men are supposed to purchase.

Bleh. I hate the whole mess.

they had to post their pictures, too. I doubt there are many George Clooney lookalikes posting at freeperville.

Shallow, stupid, and insecure. It's absolutely amazing. Why they imagine Dr. Steinberg's last name to be any of their business is a mystery to me.

This makes me want to go out today and form the Women's Army, and make some changes in the way women are percieved in the world.

26. Fundy types and "social conservatives,"
the people who make up the Republican party these days, have a hard enough time when a woman doesn't assume her husband's name upon marriage. If that woman is a physician, it apparently makes the situation even worse.

It boils down to women's rights, though few of them would admit it.

but this only shows that most of the people in that thread have absolutely no logical ability, let alone decent manners. That's one of the most backwoods threads I've ever seen. That's TRASH.

I think I'll save that thread as a classic freeper conversation for further study--for any and all who might be interested.

They had to do something - which is it with them?
They hate Hillary because she co-wrote the Presidency (they say) and now what, they are going to dish Judy because she's independent and plain jane? They can't have it both ways.

What first lady was it that was always made fun of for her plain clothes? I can't remember anymore. But we can be sure, it's going to be a hot campaign.

Go Dean!

28. Some freepers can make sense sometimes. Or I used to think
so. But after the bigoted, anti-female, and ignorant comments on that thread, I can't think that way anymore.

For all of the disgust I have with "Dubya," I have never, ever put down his wife or his kids, even when the kids got into trouble. That's so far away from common logic and decency that I wouldn't dream of doing it.
