A brief education...for no reason
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 11:37 PM by HEyHEY
This place (British Columbia) voted NDP (New Democratic Party, very ;eft) for a long time. Before that it was the Social Credit Party ( right wing, I think most of them are in jail now, hehe). Now becaus the NDP fucked everything so much...the "LIberals" (Biggest crock of shit names ever cause they are sooo right wing) took over, I'll admit, I voted for them. Swept the house like 73-2. Then the City of Vancouver election elected COPE (Coalition of progressive electorates, verryy left wing) What the fuck? It seems people here just vote against whoever is in power.I think it is cause Canucks are soo apathetic they just go for whatever is popular. Any thoughts? Live in a similiar area?
Onedit: If mods wanna move this to lounge I'll understand..I wasn't sure

1. How are the COPE?
This will all be relevant to me soon, as you know. I don't think it is just BC, I think in any industrial democracy where the media works people... that people just vote against anyone who is in power.

B.C. looks like such a beautiful area.

4. well
It never really seems to make a difference..cause we aren't as de-centralized as the staes..but COPE is just Vancouver. They are okay..sort of, I know a couple of the councillors personally, and they, in my opinion are idiots. One was the head of my program last year, she seemed...stupid. But the main thing is they care about the health of the city as opposed to the economy. Which is something Vancoucer needs right now.

Come here though...it is the best place for any US liberal

2. Hmm. I don't know if I understand your politics.
I selected my party and it's platform on principles and vote for the candidates of my party the Democratic Party, so I don't understand how your politicians would know whom their base is if the voters are so fickle. I find that confusing.

7. I think that's because of your social programs and safety nets.
I hope you don't vote the wrong crowd in some day and they take it all away from you.

8. I'm in Ontario
Ontario in the last round voted liberal federally and conservative provincially. I think it broke down like that for fiscal reasons although I highly doubt Ontario is going to go conservative in the next election. The power outage and privatization experiment of water had led to tragedy and deaths.

I hope to make it out to Vancouver, perhaps a permament move within the next year. I love Vancouver. Is it true about the perma-rain in the winter? I wonder if I could deal with that. I don't care much for Toronto winters. brrrr

10. Look at it this way
It's perma rain in Vancouver..but not hard rain, mainly overcast and drizzle. But in the SUMMER...it will stay sunny for 30 days at a time.

11. My question
would diabetes keep you from being assimilated in Canada? I have been thinking of moving there for awhile now but read that they don't let you immigrate if you could be a burden on the health care system. I saw on the site alot of infectuous diseases and STDs on the list but not diabetes.

14. Also
It is the nature here to not punish what you can't help...so diabetes may be a green light.

12. I think I could deal with that
Winter here generally tends to be overcast. What months are predominantly rainy/overcast?
