If they are al Qaeda, they'd be bombing the US people, not a holy shrine. They want supporters and the bombing just lost them quite a few, I am sure. More likely the bombers were from another group.

That being said, let me also assure you that there are many, many more Moslems who do not support terrorism in any form, who see al Qaeda as the enemy of Islam, and who want peace and justice in the Middle East.

This is (as another poster said) the start of the Iraqi Civil war.

If you believe the administrations BS, then all these attacks are generated by "dead-enders" from the Saddam Regime, or the feared boogeyman, Al Queda. This is symblomatic of their simple-minded view of Iraq and the world in general. In truth, there are many splinter groups vieing for power in the vacuum left by Saddam and they will stop at nothing to bring themselves to power.

The bad part is that no matter how much they dislike each other, they almost ALL hate the US occupation.

It'd be the equivalent of saying that anyone who hastened the end of the occupation by participating in Iraqi self-governance would be "cooperating". That's just patently absurd. To the degree it "sells," it can only prolong the occupation. Who benefits from that? It seems to me these questions almost answer themselves. Think of Chalabi as Vichy and Hakim as DeGaulle. What factions in Iraq are in the pocket of the corportists? Hakim? Nonsense. The Islamic populist movements are very clear about the "enemy" -- the World Trade Center and Pentagon don't represent the entertainment industry or democracy. They represent the plutocracy and it's global goon squad. I doubt there's a much less politically aware population than the US. Global politics is far better understood in Europe and the Middle east than anywhere else, especially the US.
