Direct Democracy... saw this on FSTV... input ?

disbanding this whole archaic "representative democracy" its time to let the people make the choices for themselves. we have the technology, we don't need people to make decisions for us any longer.

3. There's another thread today ...

that said that only 1 in 3 Democrats could name one Democrat running for president.

More disturbing is that a higher percentage of Republicans could name a Democrat running for prez, than Democrats.

Most disturbing was that more Independents than Democrats could name a Democrat running for prez. You would think Independents would be the ones who wouldn't care until close to the election.

If we were going to televise hearings on tax legislation, and then have a technological vote of the people, would Democrats be in real trouble, because thir voters just wouldn't care enough to listen? or vote?

Democratic candidates depend on the least educated and the poorest voters for their base support. It's tough enough getting that vote to the polls once every 2-4 years. How would it be if the voters would be needed much more frequently.

4. The problem with direct democracy is this

There was a time when voting rights would NOT have passed..

and a look at the "initiatives" on CA ballot is how direct democracy can run amok :(

representative democracy CAN work, IF the people sent to DC actually represented the best interests of their people, instead of their own election campaign coffers.:(

5. Also Known As Mob Rule

Think about it.

Think about how it would be implemented- technology, probably the Internet. What a way to get people to vote and let someone else "count" them.

We need to clean up our elections system. Make our votes REALLY count.

Stop paying legislators like they were royalty. Why should they get any more retirement than a veteran? Did they put their life on the line? Ditto medical benefits.

But not mob rule. Think about everyone out there who really doesn't care, just covering their eyes and voting. Or having a vote buying party, which this kind of thing would make realy easy.

And if Americans are getting dumber and not smarter....
