Sen. Clinton and Gen. Clark Fundraising Together?
I followed this link from www.wesleyclarkweblog.com:

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/issue/030908/whispers/8whisplead.htm

FOBs For Clark
Clintonites tell us to ignore all the chatter that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton wants to jump into the 2004 presidential race because she's afraid former NATO boss Wesley Clark could win it all and postpone her march to the Oval Office until 2012. In fact, they say, she's holding a strategy meeting this month to talk about fundraising for her Senate re-election and helping Clark. And that makes sense because Clark is winning the backing of the so-called FOBs, or Friends of Bill Clinton. Like: former White House consigliere Bruce Lindsey, whose car sports a "Draft Clark" sticker.

1. Makes a LOT of sense.
Someone speculated on this a few days ago.

Bill Clinton would help out a hometown bro. And if he helps him on other things (read: domestic policy), his chances are very good.

3. Clark/Clinton?
I don't know how well a ticket like that would do, but that's sure to set tongues wagging...

4. OMFG.

That just sent a chill through my body. I'd never
even thought of that.

Wouldn't that be fun to watch? The RW schizoids
would lose their minds.

5. This rumor
Has been going around for a few weeks. There is a rumor that the Clintons will overtly support Clark. The Clark's and the Clintons go back a while.

6. My concern with that, though, is that Clark 'would be a puppet'.
Edited on Tue Sep-02-03 02:33 PM by tjdee
If they give him *too* much help, god forbid if he wins the nom and names Hillary as his VP choice, the freepers will try to turn Wesley Clark, a four star general, former SACEUR with a very able brain, into Wesley Clark, "Slick Willie's puppet". That would be a shame.

8. Doubt it
This guy isn't that dumb. Hillary does nothing for him in a General Election. NY is a lock, woman already like him, Arkansas is probably a lock too.

9. But even if he doesn't name her as VP.
You know how it is, being a "friend of Bill's".

He'll get a lot of crap, along with the good stuff too.

16. Hillary's not dumb, either
She won't be VP. Perhaps she could be in a Dem president's cabinet but VP makes no more sense than her running for president.

19. I've read Clark has the support of Dems like Tom Daschle
and Nancy Pelosi, so the Clintons would be far from thw only prominent Dems supporting him.

7. First I think they will want to see what kind of candidate he makes
before anointing him.

12. I had this thought the other day
what if a Clark/Clinton ticket included Bill instead of Hillary. Is that at all possible. I don't know, sure someone lurking around does though

11. I don't see the VP connection thing??---in fact,
because she is a lightening rod, I don't think she wants right now to be in a VP slot, etc. I think she wants to stay in the Senate. But, maybe there is something else at work. Maybe it's a deal where if Clark wins she would be Sec. of State or something of that nature.

13. I was just throwing it out there...
I think you're right about the lightening rod thing...but I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened...

It could be as easy as Wes and Bill being from Arkansas, and giving a pal some help--but it's so easy to speculate with the Clintons!

This rumor has always been about money and a possible endorsement.

20. It's not going to happen
if Clark wins the nomination he'll probably pick Kerry or Dean as VP to unite the party.

22. They may support WC, but they won't endorse him
At least, that's my prognostication. An outright endorsement of a primary candidate runs counter to Bill Clinton's current role as the Dem's grand-not-so-old-man and master strategist -- at this stage he has to be speaking for the party as a whole, not for one candidate. And Hillary can't make an endorsement without it being understood as Bill's too. They may well support Clark behind the scenes, though.

23. As Long as They Open Their Rolodexes to Him
I'd be thrilled. :-) That would totally help him on the fundraising end, which seems to be the disadvantage most often cited by the naysayers of a Clark candidacy, relating to his "late" entry.
