NPR is doing a story right now about Alabama's progressive tax plan

The Republican Governor wants to make his state's tax code more progressive. I'm listenig to right wingers spin against this plan, and, interestingly, they're using many of the same arguments I've heard democrats here recently use to criticize Kerry's proposal to give back only the tax cuts for the rich, while maintaining the cuts the middle class received. "It will lead to higher defecits, property tax increases," etc. The proponents say it will unburden the poor and middle class which will help the economy. It's obvious that the far right wingers don't want a society which burdens big business and poor people fairly and equally. They don't want progressive taxation.

1. If they are saying that there is a big difference

we are telling the truth and they are lying. Every honest account I have heard, read, or seen of the Alabama plan portrays it as increasing the total level of taxation. If right wingers are saying otherwise they are liars.

On the other hand Kerry refuses to adjust his deficit numbers to reflect keeping the middle class tax cuts past their experation date. That alone makes his plan unbalanced (ie in deficit)

2. Doesn't it disturb you a little bit that, on this issue, of all issues

democrats are attacking democrats with arguments that the big business lobby is using to attack a progressive tax plan in Alabama?
